"They're taking it really well," JJ said sarcastically from the passenger seat of Heyward's pickup truck.
After ditching the rest of their classes, the pogues had to come up with a plan on how to get to Charleston. Step number one, acquire transport. Check. Number two, tell the parents the pogues were going to Charleston.
They were still working on step two.
Kiara's parents didn't seem to be taking the news well. It made Wyatt feel bad for not only Kie, but for her parents too. The pogues did a lot of dangerous shit, so she could see where they were coming from. It's not like JJ and Wyatt were the best of influences either.
"How'd you get this rig?" JJ motioned vaguely to the truck. "I know your old man didn't let you have it."
"I undid the intake valves and the carburetor. Made it start pinging," Pope explained.
"And now you're just gonna take it to your cousin Jeff's house. Just gonna get it fixed. Crash overnight."
"Crash overnight," Pope nodded.
"And I suppose you volunteered to get it fixed like the perfect little son you are," Wyatt smirked. "Proud of you, Pope."
"I think I'm rubbin' off on you, Pope," JJ said. "Lying to your old man, stealing his truck."
"Borrowing," Wyatt corrected. She was sat between the two boys on the bench, since there wasn't a backseat.
"Either way, kinda sounds familiar."
"Yeah, I think we'll make a fugitive of you yet, Pope."
"Let's not go that far," Pope threw a hand out as if to say 'calm down'.
"Alright, that's a sore subject, my bad," JJ smirked slightly.
"I'd say we have about eighteen hours before he absolutely loses his shit. So as long as we get it back before then, I think we're good."
"Doesn't really seem like it's going well," Wyatt muttered, squinting through the rays of sun to see Kie and her parents arguing about... boarding school? "Should I say something? They like me."
"First of all, ouch," Pope started, giving the girl a look. "Second, I don't think that'll help much right now."
Kie suddenly came bounding down the steps of her deck, and Wyatt and JJ got out so she could scooch in.
"Look at your life right now," Mr. Carrera yelled. "Look at your life!"
JJ sent a short wave. "It's good to see y'all Mr. and Mrs. Carrera."
