So, long story short, the tide came in faster than the pogues had originally thought it would. John B attempted to drive through it and got the van stuck.
Kie came up with the brilliant plan of commandeering her dad's truck, and using the winch at the chateau, so they could pull the Twinkie out.
Wyatt and JJ volunteered to go with her.
Wyatt went to look for the winch, agreeing to meet her friends back at the chateau. They pulled up in the truck twenty minutes later.
She had found the winch in the surf shack but wasn't about stand there carrying it for no good reason. She saw them pull up, about to go wave them down when someone covered her mouth from behind, holding her against them.
"Shh, quiet now, little girl." She recognized that voice.
"Luke?" she tried to say, but it came out more like "Mhnm?"
"Don't forget, I'm still pissed at you," Luke said in her ear. "Now, I'm here for my son, but if you make trouble... Well, your daddy and I go way back. One phone call and–"
He snapped right next to her ear, causing her to flinch. She got the message.
Just then, JJ came around the corner, pausing when he saw the scene. "Dad...?"
Wyatt took her right elbow and sent it straight into Luke's gut, breaking away to stand next to JJ, who pulled her behind him.
Luke wheezed, throwing his hands out. "What'd I just say?"
"Fuck you," Wyatt spat.
"Hey, don't talk to her. Talk to me," JJ said. "How'd you get out?"
"Work release," Luke told him, no longer glaring at Wyatt. "Good behavior. Can you believe that?"
JJ's eyes wandered down to the man's busted knuckles.
"Yeah, busted the window in a pharmacy," Luke checked around the corner. "Busted that pharmacist too. Now, look, I gotta get out of here. That pharmacist, he can ID me."
The horn of the truck honked and Kie shouted, "JJ! Wyatt?" The door opened and closed as Luke kept talking.
"I gotta get off this island. So you gotta help me, and I'm done with Kildare. I'm taking Malcolm's boat and I need to get to the other side of the island."
JJ grabbed the winch and tried to make a run for it when Luke grabbed him.
"Dad, get off me!" he struggled.
Wyatt rushed forward, pulling out her pocket knife and placing it against Luke's neck.
"Let go of him," she threatened, pushing the knife further into his skin. Not enough for him to bleed yet, but just enough so that he knew she was serious.
