Robin knew there was no way Nancy could ever like her back but the thought of being rejected almost brought tears to her eyes. Robin knew it was stupid, she knew Nancy was straight - I mean she had a Boyfriend, but some part of her was hoping, some part of her wished.

It was 8 am on a Monday, Robin was laying on her bed dreading getting up, Steve was going to pick her up in an hour to drive her to work so she had to get a move on.
Reluctantly she pulled the covers away and sat up shivering as the cold air hit her. She got ready pulling on a slightly oversized shirt and black jeans, paring it with worn out black boots.

She went to the mirror that was hanging on the wall of her room and tried to flatten her poofy hair, making her look somewhat presentable.

After a while there was a bang on the door, Robin flung it open to be greeted by Steve "come on, Keith will kill us if we are late again" Steve joked "just a sec dingus" was Robin's reply, as she snatched her family video vest from the coat rack.

The two hopped into the car and drove to work Steve blabbering on about the date he had had the previous night. "I don't know there wasn't much of a spark and well I don't know" Steve rambled which was kinda funny since it was usually Robin being the talkative one, "what happened to Darlene?" Robin questioned raising an eyebrow, "don't get me started" Steve sorta sneered. "You've been a hell of a lot more quiet than usual" Steve stated "anything on your mind?"
Nancy.
Thats what Robin's mind was engulfed with.

"Nothing, don't worry about it"
Steve could tell that that wasn't all but left it alone for now.

They went about their day as normal, stacking shelves, serving customers, repeat.

On a particularly slow part of their day where nobody was in the store, Robin turned to Steve "Steve what would you do if you were me and you liked someone" she blurted out "you like someone?" Steve replied his face lighting up "maayybee, but what would you do?" Robin said pushing the question "well as I see it you have two options, one tell this mystery person you like them and risk it or two push those feeling deep deep down and not tell them" he told the girl sighing a little.

"Great" Robin muttered, after a short pause Steve speaks again "soooo... who is it" "I'm not telling you dingus" the girl remarked rolling her eyes. "Pleaseeee" Steve pleaded pulling a puppy dog face, "no way."

The rest of the day consisted of Steve continuously begging Robin to tell him and Robin changing the subject (she was quite good at that).

She couldn't tell Steve, Robin knew that Steve had loved Nancy, he had told her himself. He used to be super hung up on her, like talk listen to sad mixtapes hung up, and it used to drive Robin insane especially because she thought Nancy was a total priss but turns out no- she is just that great.

The way her hair falls around her face
The way that when she's in deep thought her lips pursed
The way the corners of her mouth curl up when she smiles
The way she looks at me
No. No. She had a boyfriend.

Robins mind trailed off in thought of Nancy, smiling ever so slightly, Steve put his hands up in defence "fine don't tell me" he said snapping Robin back to reality "dingus" Robin muttered back under her breath but loud enough so he could hear.

Robin flopped onto her bed and let out a deep sigh, finally she could retreat to the comforting walls of her room.
Just then the phone sitting on her bedside table started ringing, Robin cautiously picked up the phone half expecting to hear Steve's voice on the other side, instead she was greeted with a familiar voice, "Robin?" It was Nancy.

"Nance?" Robin replied, "yeah.." nance let out in a small sigh, it was hard to tell across the phone but something was off.
Nancy didn't sound like herself, she almost sounded... sad. "A-are you ok?" Robin questioned only to hear a choked sob from the other side of the line.
Worry filled Robin before she heard Nancy speak up,"Johnathan broke up with me" was what could be heard through the sobs coming from the girl, "oh shit, Nancy I'm so sorry" Robin said back trying her best to comfort the girl. " is there anything I can do?" She continued not sure how to respond. "Can you um-come over?" Nancy half whispered as if she wasn't sure wether or not she wanted Robin to hear it. Robin froze
Why did Nancys want her there?
Robin knew that Nancy had plenty of other friends, friends that would be a million times better at comforting Nancy, nonetheless Robin replied " of course I'll be there in ten".

The line went silent and Robin dropped the phone back into the stand, hastily grabbing her things and dragging her bike to the path.

Robin quickened her pace has dark clouds began to gather in the sky. The wheelers didn't live too far away so it wasn't that much of a ride.

After 8 mins a winded and wet robin was standing on the wheelers porch huffing from riding there so fast. She took a deep breath before ringing the bell, she looked at herself through the reflection of the glass quickly trying to fix her soaked hair.

The door opened to find Nancy standing there, her tear-stained cheeks were damp and her eyes were slightly red.

How did she still look so beautiful

"Nancy.." Robin spoke softly her expression a gentle smile, "oh Robin I'm so sorry your soaked" Nancy said cutting her off, her voice breaking a little due to all the crying.
She pulled Robin inside before collapsing into her arms letting out a number of choked sobs. They stayed like that for a few moments, in the middle of the hall, robins hair dripping onto the floor but holding Nancy tightly, "t-thank you" Nancy managed to let out through the heavy fall of tears and unstable breaths.
Robin didn't say anything back instead she hugged the girl tighter and flashed her a warm and kind smile.

The two stayed like that until Nancy's breathing returned to normal and retreated to her bedroom.

After a lot of comforting Nancy started to tell Robin what had happened " we've been drifting away for some time now, and I guess- I guess I knew it was coming but still, it hurt" she blurted out through trembling lips. "Well, Johnathan is missing out, I think you'd make an excellent girlfriend."
Robin replied with understanding nods before Nancy continued " oh god- I'm so sorry, I made you bike through the rain just because of a stupid breakup" she rambled frantically looking for a towel and wrapping it around Robin. Robin laughed a little, and smile tugging on her freckled cheeks, "nance it's ok, I'm here for you" she grinned pulling her in for another hug.

"Nance"
Everyone called Nancy "nance" but for some reason it sounded so much better coming from Robin, she didn't know how to explain it but it felt... warmer.
She felt her cheeks heating up while she was pressed to robins chest "thank you, really" Nancy muttered holding onto the hug not wanting it to end. "Your a great friend" she added

'Friend'
Ah that stung, even knowing Nancy had just broken up with her boyfriend she couldn't help but feel this way towards her she was just so... perfect.

After a long night of crying, comforting, talking and occasionally laughing the two passed out in Nancys bed, Robin was the first to fall while Nancys mind was filled to the brim with thoughts of her boyfriend.

Robins still mostly-asleep body turned to face inwards on the bed her face only inches away from a very awake nancy.
In a Instant all the thoughts left Nancys mind leaving only one behind: Robin

How her nose scrunched up when she laughed or how warm and comforting her hugs were.
She just wanted to... to...kiss her, to see if her lips were just as warm and comforting.

Fuck I fell for Robin Buckley.
