i guess that wasn't the weirdest thing, Robin supposed.

she had seemed to be spending more and more time like this, face down in her pillow or sitting at her desk, thoughts clouding her mind, louder than any song she could try and drown it out with.

Nancy, Nancy, Nancy, Nancy...
her name repeated over and over, engraved in her mind, these bed sheets, that chair, those pillows.
to do nothing would be to go insane, she thinks, her face turned in a frown.

she had lost count of how much time had passed before the phone that was sitting on her bedside table started to ring. heart hopeful, she picked up.

the voice heard from the other end of the line was not one she had been expecting. In a tone too high to be natural, a voice chirped out, "uh-hello? robin?" she paused, only managing to stammer out a "hello" before it continued, "its vickie! i was just-uh wondering, if you would like to go to a party!—with me of course-,tomorrow night."

a party. might be good for me.

taking this not so much as a date (that vickie had not tried nearly hard enough to imply)but more of a gathering of friends, Robin accepted.

besides i don't have anything better to do. and by god, she wasn't going to spend another night wasting away in the comfort of her bedroom, thinking about the only thing she tried to push out.

a day passed and she was as restless as ever, she was so sick of it all, the pain, the distance and most unbearable part of it all, the silence.

she didn't bother with her outfit, she didn't even realise how little she effort she had put into it until it was getting complements from the red headed presence suddenly sitting next to her in the car. "i like your top" vickie tells Robin as soon as she steps into the car, face turned upwards in a smile. "thanks" Robin says trying her best to return the emotion.

the two talk. vickie is a good talker, doesn't let the conversation get too awkward, telling anecdotes about her family and friends. but every story brings her back. every gesture reminds her of another.

even so— she wants to get away, forget about the rest, just focus on having a good time, escape into the warm burn at the back of her throat when she takes yet another sip from her cup.

vickie is pretty— and kind, and someone Robin would genuinely want to be around. so she returned the smiles, nods though out the night, playing along.

everything is going just fine, just swell.
At this point she is a bit tipsy, standing beside Vickie while she talks to people Robin has never seen in her life.
this was good, she tries to convince herself, putting myself out there, i should do this more often, and i will,— Soon. the word stunts her, "soon" a commitment without a deadline, a responsibility without consequences. Yes, thats what she needs, soon she will go out again. soon she will face the ever impending question. Soon she'll be ready to try—

Nancy??
