Robin was an over thinker.
It was the morning after her conversation with Johnathan and she couldn't take her mind off of it. The bags under her eyes suggested she hadn't slept at all and her tangled web of hair that she had been pulling on all night was complimenting the look even more.
"How long do you think it will take for her to come crawling back to me" those words hit her like a truck over and over again, was that really true?
Her eye flickered over to the clock on the wall, 2pm.
Great. Though she didn't normally work today Robin had told Steve that she would cover for him while he went on a date with some girl he wouldn't tell her the name of.
She stumbled out of bed her thoughts clouded with pictures of Nancy and Johnathan. She threw on the first thing she could find and ran out the door trying desperately to shed any feelings about her encounter.
Nancy was at home working on some of her various projects. Her mother and father were out with holly, and Mike was in the middle of a campaign with the rest of the bunch when knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. With a sigh she rose from her light pink desk and walked down stairs to greet whoever it was.
Standing there looking slightly disheveled (though it was sort of how he looked all the time) was Johnathan.
After Nancy had managed to wipe the look of shock and confusion off of her face the anger set in but before she had a chance to speak he opened his mouth "hey Nance." The voice was not firm but it certainly wasn't weak, "I just wanted to tell you... I'm really sorry." The mix of emotions on her face must've shown because he continued, "for everything. Fighting, teasing, talking... I'm sorry I wasn't in the right place and even though that's no excuse, I'm sorry".
She half expected him to say something rude, mock and tease her right in that moment but after a string of uncomfortable seconds there was still no trace of surprise on his face, in fact he looked remorseful it was kinda, pitiful.
"Johnathan" a sigh escaping Nancys lips as she spoke, "thank you. For the apology" her own hand was placed on her forehead in slight distress and the other had landed on her hip. "I appreciate it but- I'm sorry I can't just forgive what you did yet." With that she shut the door not bothering or caring to give him a second look.
Robin had arrived and got to work stacking the shelves, helping customers and so on. The familiar sound of the door dragging on the scrape stained floor was what prompted Robin to turn around, doing so was greeted by Nancy.
Nancy was one of the last people she wanted to see right now. Not because she didn't like her or she was annoyed but because she would be lying if she said Jonathan didn't get into her head a little and by a little she ment a lot.
Still she shed her troublesome frown on a went over to greet her girlfriend. "Hey nance..." Robin started through a smile that was starting to feel more forced by the second. "Hey robs!" Nancy replied in a glee riddled voice, "what's up?" Robin said as she walked over to the register, "honestly not much, though Johnathan did come by my house..." Robin just stared in anticipation, did he say what he said to her?
"...And I actually think he's turning over a new leaf, I mean he apologised to me and everything".
What??
She knew logically, she shouldn't be angry especially with Nancy, but this combined with Jonathan's words that had been creating a storm in her head since last night was the last straw, "really Nance? After everything that happened?" She scoffed in a way harsher tone than she meant to causing Nancy look up in surprise, "I'm sorry, he just seemed sincere and he wasn't like this before the breakup..."she hushed her voice getting caught in her throat as she spoke. "Well if you believe in him so much why don't you go visit him instead" Robin finished turning away so Nancy couldn't see the hurt look on her face.
Now it was Nancy's turn to be angry, "Jesus Christ Robin, really? Over this?" Nancy tried to shift herself so she could look Robin In the eye but was met with a cold shoulder, "fucking hell." She muttered under her breath walking out of the store.
Robin made sure she didn't look back until she was sure Nancy was gone, her eyes were holding tears that threatened to spill and she knew if she met Nancy's face she wouldn't be able to hold it in.
When the flood gates finally opened she slid down the wall her hands covering her face and her knees up to her chin. And though she didn't exactly say it she just couldn't believe that Nancy was taking Johnathan's side, was he right? What if Nancy did want Johnathan back? What if when he came back they connected and she remembered how happy she was with him? What if she was just a rebound?
Mentally she was praying and hoping that nobody walked into the store, god she didn't need someone to see her like this.
After a few minutes and she was recovering from her breakdown, she wiped any evidence of her tears on her tee-shirt and stood up, patting her wrinkled clothes down.
She still had a whole day ahead of her.
I hope u enjoyed that and I'm sorry this chapter is late! Next chapter will be mostly from Nancy's perspective!
