Kate's POV:

"Kate?" Mom asked as she knocked on my door.
"Come in." I said as clear as I could. The door slowly opened.
"Oh." Mom said as she leaned on the door frame. I wiped my face with my sweatshirt sleeve. Mom looked over in the direction of the black dress layed out on my bed. "We're leaving in thirty, my love."
"I know." I replied, wiping my cheeks once again.
"You can always come a little later. Ms B offered to take you whenever you're ready."
"Okay." She gave me an awkward nod then closed the door.

More tears started to fall.
This is all your fault.
They would still be alive if it wasn't for you.
You are such a screw up.
This wouldn't be happening if you didn't exist.
You would be better off dead.
You don't deserve to be alive.
You should be dead right now, not them.
They didn't deserve this.
You.
You deserve it.

Kate's mom's POV:

"Miles I don't know what to do." I said as I sat down on our bed.
"What's wrong?" He asked, coming out of our bathroom.
"Kate's still crying. They think this is all their fault."
"It was her idea."
"MILES." It went silent. We each finished getting ready, but didn't talk at all.

"Mama?" Kate poked their head in the door. I shot up and went over to them.
"Yes baby?"
"Can I go with mrs B?"
"Of course hun, I'll text her right now."
"Thank you." They turned away and walked down our quiet hallway.

"She seemed fine to me." Miles said. I snapped my head in his direction.
"What has gotten into you?!" I asked.
"Nothing. I should be asking you that."
"Excuse me?!"
"You're pretending Katelyn didn't do anything wrong."
"They didn't."
"Stop using those dumb pronouns she's a girl and will always be a girl."
"Wow."
"I'm just trying to make you aware of the truth."

Kate's POV:

I grabbed my laptop off the floor and set it on my lap. I opened up spotify and plugged in my headphones. Mom and dad are fighting still; they're getting louder each minute.

"We're leaving, hun." Mom poked her head in the door. I pulled out one of my earbuds.
"Okay."
"Beatrice will be here at 12:30."
"Okay."
"It's 11:40 right now."
"Okay."
"I love you." I placed my earbud back in my ear. She left and shut the door behind her.

Chess' POV:

"KATIE." I yelled as I got into their house. The house was silent. Way too silent. There wasn't the usual music blasting, or tv sound, or the sound of video games, or arguing echoing throughout the house. There wasn't even barks. Their house has been different since Kaya died. But not this different. There was no sense of life in the house. Mom and Gabby came in with me but Clementine, Grey, and dad stayed in the car.
"Maybe check upstairs?" Mom suggested. I looked down at my legs.
"I'll carry you up." Gabby said and scooped me up out of the wheelchair. I fixed my dress to make sure nothing that wasn't supposed to be clothed was showing. She set me down on the top step and I used my arms to seal walk into Kate's room. They were laying in their bed. A black dress was balled up in the middle of the floor.
"Katie?"
They didn't respond. I moved closer to them. They were sleeping. I pulled myself up just enough that my head was resting on their bed. I brushed the side of their cheek. Kate grumbled then rolled over.
"Kate. We have to go." They sat straight up in bed. "Shh it's just me, calm down."
"Oh. Sorry. Uh. I lost track of time." They said as they rubbed their eyes.
"It's okay, I'll help you get ready." I dropped off their bed.
"Here." Gabby said as she placed my wheelchair in the room.
"Thank you. Tell mom we'll be down in a few." I said as I moved over to my wheelchair and got in. Grey left the room.
