Adrian POV
Maya had gotten along surprisingly well with my friends at the dinner table. A little too well if you asked me. As we headed back to the ballroom after a delicious meal Cassius caught up with us.
"Hey Maya, could I please have one dance with you?" Cassius asked. My insides churned as I glared at my friend. Maya turned towards me unsure of what to do. She searched my face for a sign of approval.
"Come on Adrian! You have hogged enough of her time. Just one dance!" He cribbed. I reluctantly agreed, acting nonchalant but there was a tornado inside of me. I knew Cassius was bloody good with words.
As a courtesy, I asked Cassius' date, Junia to dance with me. Cas held out his arm and Maya slid her palm into it. He then went on to hold her waist and they began to swing. I did the same with Junia and adjusted my position to make sure I could keep an eye on Cas.
Maya's body had tensed up quite a bit. The stiffness in her posture was evident. She maintained a decent distance between their bodies. It was nothing like when she danced with me. We were desperately trying to bridge a non-existent gap. The memory alone was arousing.
She smiled at something Cas had said, and I saw a tinge of color rise in her cheeks. He was flirting with her! What about the bro code? How long is this song?
Her eyes met mine. I did absolutely nothing to conceal the fact that I had been staring at her. She smiled at me before turning her attention back to Cas as she laughed again. The pattern continued, as Maya divided her attention between Cas and me.
Finally, as the song came to an end I glided along the dancefloor with Juni.
"I am captivated by your lips because they outline the most beautiful smile." I heard Cassius.
"You flatter me Cas." Maya blushed.
Cas! Really? "Ahem ahem," I had heard enough.
"Thank you for the dance." Cassius immediately let go of her and pulled Juni into his arms.
Maya almost instantly wrapped both her arms around my neck. I coiled my arms around the back of her waist. She decreased the gap between our bodies, and her posture was much more relaxed There was something different about the way she looked at me. It felt like she was searching for something. She was awfully quiet.
Her large brown eyes were locked on mine. I could count her eyelashes, her beautiful thick eyelashes. I enjoyed the feeling of her hair brushing against my hand as we swayed with the music. I felt her fingers run through the hair on the back of my head.
"Maya, you are beautiful," I whispered and her luscious lips curled upwards in a shy smile.
Twenty minutes had passed and she hadn't uttered a single word. She had buried her face in my chest, only her thick wavy mane was visible to me. I got lost in its sweet floral smell for a while before I began to panic.
Is she bored? Maybe she isn't enjoying herself or she is tired.
I took a step back and she looked up at me from my chest. I felt a strong urge to kiss her on her lips. A sweet gentle kiss.
"Are you bored? We could do something else. I could show you my broom, you can take it for a spin. Or we could go to the kitchen for some desserts. Or if you want we can dance with your drunk Ravenclaw friends there," I said pointing to a group of intoxicated Ravenclaws rolling on the floor. "I might need a strong drink before though."
"I am fine Adrian. Unless you want to do something else." Came her reply.
"No, no, no I love this. I just want to make sure you are having fun. You haven't..." I stopped mid-sentence. "You called me Adrian." My stomach tingled.
