Maya POV

Shortly after our first Quidditch match, all our schedules began to get intense. The looming O.W.L.S. caused a strange pit in my stomach every time I spent time away from my books. Assignments piled up at an alarming rate. I relied heavily on the weekends to complete them.

Roger Davies wasn't helping either. We had more Quidditch practice slots than needed, and Rogers insisted we utilized every single one of them. Practice was exhausting, both physically and mentally. The Slytherins had their swift Nimbus 2001s while the Gryffindors had their skill and Oliver Wood. We relied heavily on our minds. We had fellow Ravenclaw Quidditch enthusiasts analyze other team players, to identify their weak points and potential focus triggers before coming up with strategies.

From all the historical data collected we knew the left hoop was the Slytherin keeper's weak point, Harry Potter would lunge at anything remotely shiny and he was easy to fool. Flint was sure to foul if he was unable to block, George Weasley would never send a bludger my way and Adrian Pucey would never cheat. The only paint point for us was been Oliver Wood. When it came to Quidditch his mind worked faster than all of us Ravenclaws put together.

The one thing going for me was Adrian Pucey. He worked his schedule around mine. He walked me to all my classes and lugged my heavy schoolbag. He whispered cute nothings into my ears when our paths crossed and had first years deliver chocolates to my dorm. If I missed a meal, he made sure to hunt me down and feed me. Nobody had ever treated me the way Adrian did. He made me feel special, he made me happy. My fondness for him increased with each passing day. He made it impossible for me not to fall in love with him.

George Weasley seemed to be coming to terms with me dating Adrian. He didn't offer me irrational bribes or try to talk me out of it. The scowl he normally flaunted every time Adrian came within a 10 feet radius of mine slowly faded off. I heard a meager "Hey" leave his lips last week when we ran into Adrian returning from Quidditch practice. He flew to my dorm each night after Adrian left and we chatted for hours about school work, the joke shop, and even our love lives. He showed a lot of interest in the intricacies of my love life but didn't give me any details of the girl he was interested in. I suspected it was Katie because every time we ran into her there was a strange kind of discomfort in the air. George and Katie sure had some unfinished business.

Late one Thursday evening I sat on my bed reading my ancient runes textbook. I was mentally exhausted and found it incredibly difficult to register anything I read.

"Have you been in love before?" Adrian's raspy voice hit me from behind. It made me jump out of my skin. I had forgotten he was next to me! His breath fanned my shoulder. My back leaned into his chest as I sat between his legs.

"Darling, it's just me." He said rubbing his palms along the length of my hands. "You need to put that book aside, you have been staring at it for three hours straight now."

He was right, I put my book away and began to play with the hem of the Slytherin hoodie he was wearing.

"You didn't answer my question, Bagnold." I could feel his piercing gaze hit the side of my face.

"Yes, I have. It was purely one-sided and my heart shattered. That's the end of it. What about you?" I asked, not willing to elaborate any further. Adrian sensed my reluctance.

"I have been in one serious relationship before. I loved her." I felt Adrian shrug.

"If you don't mind me asking, what happened?" I was curious.

"The distance. She fell for someone at Beauxbatons last year and ended it with me in an owl post."

"I am sorry." I felt sad for him.
