Amara

"Are you a transformer? Because, you're Optimus fine." The blonde guy standing next to me said as I purse my lips together, trying not to laugh.

I hear a familiar laugh come from beside me as I reach back, swatting his arm.

"Umm, the offer is... Nice. But, I'm not really interested." I say, as politely as possible.

"I could make you interested." He says, smirking at me.

Okay, now, I'm uncomfortable.

Asher must've sensed that because I felt a chest graze against my back as his scent clouded my senses.

"She said. She's not interested." His deep voice says, in a tone I've never heard before.

Is it weird that I kind of like it though?

"Chill man. I'm just having fun." The guy says, narrowing his eyes at Asher.

"You need to learn that when a girl says no, it means no. When you do that, then you can have fun." Asher says, his arm protectively wrapping around my waist.

"Woah. It's not like I was going to do anything without her consent." The guy says, standing up to his full height.

"Sure sounded like you couldn't take no for answer." Asher says, pulling me closer to him. "Besides, she's not available anyways."

And about 20,000 butterflies just fluttered in my stomach.

"This is ridiculous." The guy says, turning around and walking away.

"Thanks. You didn't have to do that." I say as Asher removes his arm from my waist.

"Yes I did." He says, a warm smile spreading across his lips as he sits back down. "What the hell was with the pickup line though?"

I nearly snort just thinking about it. "No idea." I say, sitting down.

"Mara, remember that guy I set you up with last year?" Remi asks, leaning forward on the table.

"The one with the fucking lisp?" I ask and Asher laughs.

"Yeah... Anyways, glad that didn't work out. Look at him now." She says, showing me a picture on her phone.

"Oh Dios." I say, my eyes widening at the man that looks like he's on fucking drugs. "Did he have Meth for lunch, or something?"

Asher snorts from beside me and I grin when his hand hits the table from laughter.

"You went out with that?" He asks, his nose crinkling up as he laughs.

"He didn't look like that at the time." I say.

"And the lisp?"

"Yeah, I did know about that. Thought I could maybe just ignore it. Definitely couldn't." I say, shaking my head.

"Why the hell did you even go?" He asks and I shrug.

"I'm a people pleaser. It's just how I am."

Asher looks at me, lowering his voice, his next words make me inhale sharply, "Well, when was the last time you were the one pleased?"
