Asher
"Oh my God Asher, shut up!" Amara yells, shoving my shoulder.
I laugh, throwing my head slightly back for a second.
We're sitting on a blanket, that's spread out on the grass in the large park. Food spread out in between us.
"Come here." I say, reaching my hand out towards Amara.
"What?" She asks, her brows furrowed.
"You have icing on your face." I say, wiping the vanilla icing off of her cheek.
I wipe my thumb on a napkin before leaning back on my elbow.
"So, you bake the cupcakes yourself, or what?" She asks.
"Definitely not. I made my mom ship them." I say and she grins.
"Well, they're phenomenal." She says and I nod.
"She does bake for a living so, I'd hope so." I say and she chuckles.
"Does she?" She asks.
"Yeah. She makes the best cookies." I say and she chuckles, rolling onto her stomach and propping herself up on her elbows and forearms.
I resist the urge to look down at her breasts that are most definitely on more display than they were a couple of seconds ago.
"I bet." Amara reaches for the bottle of wine, filling her glass up halfway.
"Okay, we have at least an hour to spare. What do you want to watch?" I ask, opening up my MacBook.
"I don't know. Give me some options." She says, popping a raspberry in her mouth.
"We can just start by looking through Netflix and go from there." I say and she nods.
"Why are raspberries so good?" She asks, shoving a handful of them in her mouth.
I chuckle before opening Safari and pulling up Netflix. "I don't know."
"Like, seriously." She groans, grabbing another handful. "Ooh. Clueless!" She yells.
"No." I say and she frowns.
"Why not? It's iconic."
"It's girly." I argue.
"Well, I'm girly." She says, a cheeky smile playing on her lips.
"That's great for you. I, on the other hand, am not."
She snorts, "You planned a picnic for our first date."
"I can be romantic without being girly." I say and she purses her lips.
"Yes and no." She makes a 'so-so' motion with her hands.
"Would you like to be dropped off now?" I ask and her smile fades.
"No.." She says quietly, her smile instantly fading. "I was just teasing."
My expression turns serious, "You don't actually think I'd do that, do you?"
"Well, I... I want to believe you wouldn't but, it's happened before." She says quietly, looking down.
"Hold on. I need you to specify."
"The guy I dated last semester, his name is Rylan. We were on a date, this was after we'd been dating for a while, and I made a joke that he took too seriously and got all butt-hurt. He told me to get in the car so, I did." I feel my nostrils slightly flare as she talks.
"I just thought maybe he wanted to drive around or something. That's what I do when I need to cool down or clear my head. But he didn't. Instead, he pulled into my old apartment building and dropped me off without so much as a goodbye."
