«Eleana Parker?» The doctor comes out of his office and call the three of us into his office. They called us yesterday and asked if we could come in today because they had the results of her genetic tests they did. I'm nervous because they wouldn't have called us in if there weren't something wrong, or abnormal. Which means that there are concerns that needs to be addressed.
Elena sits down on a chair between me and Joe, she is nervous, I can tell because her hand is trembling. I take her hand in mine to try to calm her down. She isn't one that really talks about what's going on inside her head, but I'm trying to be there for her anyway.
«I will get straight to the point. The genetic testing shows that Elena has classical Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Thats a genetic disorder that affects the connective tissue. Connective tissues are proteins, such as collagen, that provide elasticity and support to the joints, blood vessels, and skin» she explains, and I try to take it all in.
I've never heard about that condition before, but I was never really interested in science and medicine when I was younger and in school anyway.
«There is no cure for this, so what we will do is treat the symptoms she has as they pop up. We are already treating her POTS which is a good first step. I would advise to get her a physical therapist that's' used to working with EDS cases because you need to pay extra attention to joints when you work with this group of patients. The goal with PT would be to strengthen the muscles around her joints»
She explains the symptoms and what is the particular concerns with her type of EDS. I'm determined to learn everything I can about her disorder so I can best help her. She is our responsibility, and I will make sure she gets the best help there is.

After dropping Elena off at school, we have some time off work to get lunch, so we head to a cafe close to the office to get a bite to eat and some coffee. We don't really get much time alone these days, and never out of the house after Elena moved in. I don't mind that we spend most of our time at home, so she feels safe, but it's nice to get out of the house with Joe too.
We both get Caesar salad; I get a latte while Joe gets a cappuccino. «It's nice to just be you and me» he smiles at me, that smile that shows off his dimples on both side and makes his eyes sparkle. «We need more us time»
Eventually we will have to get Elena used to being home with someone that's not us, but I don't want to push her too much either. It's a big adjustment to move into a new home, and I don't want to make everything harder for her. I can't imagine what it's like to be in her shoes, so I'm not going to pretend I do either. But I try to be there for her in any way I can.
«What do we think about the CPSs suggestion to get her into therapy?» Joe says «I think we should seriously consider it. She might need it after what she has been through. If she won't talk to us, she might need someone else, a third party that doesn't live with her» We might need to make that choice for her because I think she would benefit from it.
«We make quite a team Mrs. hilton» he smirks at me, and I roll my eyes «oh Mr. hilton. Flattery suits you»
I never thought that I would find a love like this, a love that consumes me in a good way. He is the first person I think about in the morning and the last person I think about when I go to bed. We didn't choose each other to begin with but turns out that fate wanted us together and that was the way of making us get to know each other. I was so bad for a long time at my parents for making me marry a stranger, but these days I'm thankful for it. They gave me to the love of my life.
