The days are getting shorter and colder. Each day that passes by seems to be even better than the day before. Work flies by now, each moment feeling special. The days I spend at Dawson's apartment with him and Snowball are some of the warmest memories I'm already starting to collect. Thanksgiving is coming up quickly, which also means my parents, but that seems to far away to me. Even though it's truly not. Me and Dawson are leaving for the my parents tomorrow. But with the way I'm living, it feels like an eternity away.
It's warm in the office. Ever since the day Ryan broke into Dawson's building, we haven't seen him since. He hasn't tried to contact me, nor has he even made any interest in me. It's relieving. But as the family holidays start to roll around, Dawson seems lighter. More open to everything around him. He's lucky to have such an amazing family. From what I've heard, they are one of the best families ever. I hope he's not missing their thanksgiving for my awful family dinner.
Like early this morning, he bought everyone coffee. We've been hanging out in the café area since we all showed up this morning, just chatting and having a good time. Vanessa is here too. Ever since Dawson fired Kelly, he ended up hiring Vanessa. She's amazing at the receptionist desk and everyone seems to enjoy her energy. Jack seems to enjoy her presence most of all though. I always catch them arguing about superhero movies and their favorite actors.
It feels so great.
I take a sip of my hot coffee, enjoying the way it makes it way down my throat, helping me wake up. "You can't tell me that Nat and Bruce weren't adorable together!" Vanessa chirps at Jack, taking an annoyingly loud slurp of her iced coffee. Jack just smiles down at her, sipping on his fruit smoothie. She stares up at him, bumping him with her hip as she goes on and on about how this character would be cute with that character and how their characteristics would clash so well together.
Dawson is off on the farther side of the café, talking to some of his most trusted workers. Normally when he talks to them it's important, so I haven't gone over to him yet. He's just doing business, sipping on some black coffee. Vanessa's laugh brings me back to the spot I'm currently standing in.
Jack doesn't seem bothered by Vanessa. Not even a little bit. He's always smiling when she's around and teasing her back just as much as she teases him.
"Isadora and Dawson's relationship reminds me of Tony and Pepper." My ears zone into the conversation and now I step in, "What are you talking about?"
Vanessa sighs and rolls her eyes at me with a grin, "Dawson is always possessive of you. He's always worried about you and always wants to know you're safe. You're like his whole world." My heart does this flip in my chest, the warmth expanding across my cheeks. "What? No, he's not..."
Vanessa laughs and Jack just grins, "She's not wrong, Arctic. He stares at you like you make the world go around." My heart starts going crazy, beating loudly in my chest as I deny it again.
Vanessa sends Jack a quick look, before loudly speaking, "Oh my god, Dora, did you just get burned?" My face goes hot and my eyes scan the crowd for Dawson's tall figure. He's not—
A gasp leaves me as large hands slide around my waist, heat prickling beneath my skin, "Are you okay, ragazza carina? Where did you get burned?" Dawson's rough voice radiates through my body and I can't help but melt back into his hard body. So warm, so familiar, so comfortable.
"See? Told you so."
"Never should have doubted us, Arctic."
"What are they talking about, baby?" Dawson's breath is warm on my ear. It sends my heart pounding and all I want to do is spin around and kiss him. A sigh heaves from my chest and I spin around in his hold, my lips basically brushing against his. It sends a shiver of excitement through my body and it takes everything in me not to crush my lips to his and kiss him until I can't breathe. "They're liars, I didn't burn myself, they were just trying to prove a—" Dawson yanks me into his body with a growl. "Don't ever mess around by saying she got hurt. That's not some funny joke." He grits at them, stroking my back softly, "I'll fuck you both up if you mess around like that again." Vanessa just shrugs her shoulders because me and her both know he would never touch a woman like that but Jack just shakes his head.
