Part 64 - I'M TRYING

It had been about a week since you spoke to your mom, and quite honestly you were fine with it. You had finally gotten into a routine here at Eddie's between your work and school. The two of you were for sure graduating together at the end of June, you were sure of it.

"Hey" Steve interrupted your train of thought.
"Everything okay up there? You totally zoned out when that customer came up to ask you something" he added.
"Aw shit.. yea I'm sorry" you sighed as you rubbed your eyes.
"I'm worried about you Y/N" Steve said as he leaned against the counter, paying closer attention to you "You know that I'm here if you need to talk" he said.
You sighed "Yea.." your eyes shifted to the clock, it was a few minutes till closing time "Would you be able to drive me to Eddie's after work? He's at a DND session tonight" You asked.
"Sure" Steve smiled quickly before heading to the till to close out for the night.

After you two closed the store you headed to Steve's car, you both buckled up before he started driving to Eddie's. You took a deep breath before talking "So I'm not sure how much you know but...about a week ago I told my mom the news of Eddie and I getting engaged and she didn't take it so well" you paused and tried to compose yourself "Well she obviously didn't take it well at all since you know.. she kicked me out" you laughed nervously.

You looked down at your hands and started picking at your fingers.
"Hey.." Steve grabbed your hand "It's okay" he smiled as he put his hand back on the steering wheel.
You took another deep breath "I guess I just expected her to be happy for me" you sniffled 
"Was that too much of me to ask?" You said as you looked over at Steve.
"No, not at all" he said as he quickly glanced over at you "I mean... if I'm also being honest I wasn't exactly excited to hear you get engaged but that's a me problem" he said. You could tell he was upset.
"Can I ask why?" You said in anticipation.
Steve sighed "I guess I never actually got over you Y/N... I know it's selfish of me to say that to you now but it's true" he kept his eyes focused on the road.
"I'm sorry" you said quietly. You couldn't help but feel helpless in this situation.
"No - Y/N I should be the one apologizing" he sighed "At the end of the day I just want you to be happy....and if that means being married to Eddie then I can live with that" he said "I just want you to be happy"
"Thank you Steve, that means a lot to me" you said softly.
"But if that punk ever hurts you" he shook his fist in the air and laughed.
You joined him in laughter "Yea yea Steve".

You finally arrived at Eddie's, Steve put the car in park "Thank you" you said as you leaned over and hugged him.
"I'll see you later this week okay?" He said as he smiled back at you.
"Okay" you said before leaving the car.

After unlocking the front door you waved back at Steve, who was making sure you got inside safely. You locked the door behind you before grabbing a snack and heading into Eddie's room. As you undressed out of your work clothes you popped in a comfort movie of yours, 16 Candles. Once you were in your pyjamas you crawled into bed and ate your snacks. About half an hour had passed before you heard the front door open, seconds later Eddie entered the room with a giant grin on his face "Sorry I'm late sweetheart" he said as he kissed your lips.
"How was work?" He asked as he started undressing from his clothes and into sweatpants.
"Honestly? Kind of long. How was your session?" You asked.
"Also kind of ran a bit long, but it was good" he said as he crawled into bed with you.

You admired his tattooed chest before turning off the lamp on the nightstand.
"Come here" he said as he pulled you onto his chest, you rested your hand on the opposite side of where you rested your head. Letting out a big sigh you closed your eyes "what's on your mind?" Eddie asked as he played with your hair.
"Just... still thinking about my mom" you said softly.
"It'll be okay Y/N...one day at a time" he hushed you.
"I know" you sighed "I'm trying my best" you added.
"Hey" Eddie said as he pulled your chin up so that you were face to face "You'll get through this... WE will get through this okay?" He said as he gazed into each of your eyes "I love you Y/N" he smiled.
"I love you too" you smiled back.
