Part 68 - HI MOM

"I'll be in the van" Eddie said as he put a cigarette between his teeth.
"Okay I'll be right out" you said as you rubbed your eyes and grabbed your snacks from the fridge. Even though you had a decent sleep it was still a Saturday morning, you always used these mornings to sleep in but instead you took Robins shift today so that you could have the night off with Eddie.

The phone rang just as you were about to head out the door, something was telling you that you should answer so you did.

You took a deep breath and picked up the phone "Hello?" You said.
"Hi hon.." a familiar voice said on the other end.
"Oh.. hi mom" you hesitated.
"I um... I know graduation is in a few days now and I just wanted to know if I could come over and talk to you.. and Eddie" she said softly.
You pondered for a moment before answering "Can I ask why?" You said.
"No, but I promise it's nothing bad" she said.
You swallowed harshly "Okay.. I'm just headed to work now so maybe you can come by around 5?" You said.
"Okay, sure. Can I bring you guys anything?" She asked.
"No it's okay, Eddie and I have dinner plans tonight" you said.
"I'll see you around 5" she said. There was a moment of silence between the two of you "thank you for talking to me this time Y/N" she said "I'll see you later" the phone clicked.

After locking the door you headed into Eddie's van "that was fucking weird" you said as you buckled up.
"Is everything okay?" He asked as he placed his hand on your lap.
"Yea it's just- my mom just called and asked to come over quickly tonight to talk about something" you said as you played with Eddie's ring.
"Annnd?" He said.
"And I said yes" you said nervously.
"Good" he said as he put the vehicle in gear as he took a puff of his cigarette "I love you" he said as he squeezed your hand.
"I love you too" you said "I'm kind of nervous about what she wants to talk about" you hesitated.
"I know, but it'll be okay. I'll be with you the whole time" he said as he rubbed his thumb back and forth.
You brought his hand up to your face and placed a soft kiss on the top of his warm hand.

The rest of the drive to work was quiet, but a comfortable quiet. When you finally arrived you started unbuckling yourself
"Hey" Eddie said as he quickly hooked his finger under your chin and swiftly placed a kiss on your lips. You sank into the kiss immediately and hummed, you loved how much he snuck in kisses like this. As you pulled away you looked into each others eyes
"I'll be back to pick you up after work" he smiled.
"See you then" you smiled back.

Work is long, and boring. The weather in Hawkins has been beautiful lately so no one has been stopping by during the days on the weekends to rent any movies.

Finally. 4 o'clock was here, which meant you can finally leave for the day.
"I'll see you tomorrow?" You said to Robin as you headed out the door.
"I'll be here" she saluted to you with a smile "Have a good night" she said.
"Thanks, you too" you smiled as you pushed the door with your back and headed into the parking lot.

"Hey" you said as you opened the van door.
"Hey Sweetheart" Eddie smiled "How was work?" He asked as he put the van into gear and backed up.
"Longest day of my life I swear" you huffed.
"I hear you" he said as he rested his hand on your lap. You closed your eyes and rolled the window down a little and enjoyed the breeze.

Before you knew it you were back home, your mom was coming over in less than an hour so you had to hurry to clean the place before she arrives.
"Babe, do you mind helping clean up a little?" You said nervously as you looked around the trailer.
"Yea of course" he said as he started gathering the random articles of clothing around the living room.

20 minutes had gone by and just as you were washing the last dish in the sink there was a knock at the door.

Your heart raced as you walked up to the door, before opening it you closed your eyes and took a sharp breath.
"Okay" you whispered to yourself.
You opened the door slowly, revealing your mother standing in the doorway.
"Hi Y/N" she said.
"Hi" you said softly.

Pausing for a moment you snapped out of it and widened the door to let her in.
"Hey Mrs Y/L/N" Eddie said as he entered the room.
"Hi Eddie" she replied.
The three of you sat awkwardly in the living room. There were a few moments of silence before your mom broke it.
"I hope you two are doing well" she said.
"We are" you said quickly.
"Right, we'll I'm just going to get right into it" she paused "I've had some time to reflect on this engagement over the last few weeks and I just want to apologize... to both of you" she said as she looked over at Eddie "I want to help the two of you in any way that I can" she said as she fumbled in her purse.

You watched as she pulled a rectangle piece of paper and looked at you "Y/N, I've been saving this ever since you were born to give to you as a present for when you graduate but I want you to have this as a wedding present" she handed you the piece of paper. You looked down and realized it was a cheque ... for a very large sum of money ... $50,000 to be exact.

"Mom I-" you were stunned.
"No Y/N, that's for you and Eddie... to buy a house, or whatever else you may want or need" she said.
You passed the cheque over to Eddie so he could see how much money you two just received.
"Holy shit" he said.
"I'm sorry that I wasn't excited for the two of you when you got engaged...but I hope this can at least make up a little bit for my absence" she said.
"Thank you mom" you said as you looked into her eyes "seriously, thank you".
"Of course" she said as she cracked a smile.
"Thank you Mrs Y/L/N, it means more than you know" Eddie said.
"You're welcome" she said "now, if you excuse me I've got to head to work now" she added as she stood up.
You followed her to the door and opened it for her "Thanks again mom" you paused "I love you"
"I love you too honey" she said as she hugged you "I'll call you tomorrow, okay?" She said before heading out the door.
"Okay" you said as you waved goodbye.

After shutting the door you turned around and looked at Eddie "Holy fuck" you said as you shrieked and jumped into his tattooed arms. Eddie chuckled as he spun you around "We're going to buy that house sweetheart" he said as he held onto you tightly "we're doing it" he said.
You squeezed him tight "My god I can't wait" a tear rolled down your cheek. You closed your eyes and smiled as Eddie rubbed your back "We're going to be married AND have our dream house soon" he said "I swear to god I'm the luckiest guy on the fucking planet" he chuckled
