Part 71 - FIGURING IT OUT

"Babe I'm heading out now!" You yelled.
"Okay have fun, sweetheart" Eddie ran from the bedroom to give you a kiss goodbye.
"Thank you, I'll see you later" you said before heading out the door.

You had a bit of time to reflect on your walk to Robin's place. The last year had kind of been a whirlwind. You moved to Hawkins, met new friends, fell in love with Eddie, graduated, and now the two of you were engaged to be married. If dad could see you now he'd be proud of his little girl.

The thought of your father not being here created a lump in the back of your throat, it was going to be hard not having him by your side at your wedding. You shook your head to clear your thoughts, trying not to focus on anything sad right now otherwise you'd start crying. You sighed as you approached robins house.

*knock kno-*

The door swung open before you could finish the second knock.
"Hey!" Robin said with a big toothy grin.
"Hey" you smiled as you entered her home. Before you took another step Robin pulled you in for a hug "I've missed you" she said "Come on, let's head into my room".
You followed Robin to her room which was down the hall from the front door.
"Soo are you going to tell me where we're going?" You asked.
"Y/N, I've gotta be honest" she sat down beside you "I would be a bad friend to you if I didn't tell you this now" she looked down at her bitten nails "Steve... he's still very much in love with you" she sighed.
You gulped.
"And I know that's not fair to you but I had to get it off my chest, you know I can't keep secrets and-"
"Why didn't he tell me himself?" You cut her off.
"He knew if he saw you he'd just want to convince you not to marry Eddie" she sighed.

You paused for a few moments "Robin, would you be okay if we stopped at Steve's?" You asked.
"I don't really think-"
"Please? I need to do this" you said.
You and Steve had somewhat of a history together. You always intended on staying friends with him, even though he wanted more. Maybe in another universe you'd end up together but you loved Eddie in this one.

"Are you ready?" Robin asked.
"No, but fuck it" You quickly walked up the path to Steve's house, no turning back now. You looked back at Robin who was already occupied by picking grass on the lawn.

*knock knock knock*

Steve answered the door, you gulped as you stood face to face with him. Even though you still worked together sometimes this just felt more intimate.
"Hi" you said quietly.
"Y/N, hey, what uh what are you doing here?" He asked nervously.
"Can we um. Can we talk?" You asked.
"Sure" Steve said as he stepped aside.

Taking a step into Steve's house you looked around "Is it just you at home right now?" You asked.
"Yea uh my mom and dad are out of town this week so I get the place to myself" he smiled.
"Cool... cool... so I um. I came here to talk to you about something" you looked into his big brown eyes.
"What's up?" He asked as he folded his arms over his chest.
You closed your eyes as you took a deep breath "Do you think it's dumb that I'm marrying Eddie this quickly?" You blurted out.
Steve was taken aback by the question "Jeez, I didn't think you were going to come in with such a loaded question" he chuckled.
"Steve, please. Be serious" you begged. You weren't joking around.

Steve took a few moments to process his reply, his eyes looked deep into yours before speaking "Well..." he said "The two of you seem pretty set in your ways... but judging by what you've said and from what I can tell, the two of you really do love each other" he paused as he played with his watch "With that said, do I think it's a dumb idea? No...Do I think it's too fast? Yes. Would I love to convince you out of it? Yes but that's just me being selfish" He looked back up to your eyes and sighed "Truthfully though I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous"
"Wow. Steve Harrington, jealous??" You laughed.
"Oh shut up" he chuckled "You know I've always had a soft spot for you, Y/N" he sighed again as he bit his bottom lip "I know we've had this conversation before and I know it's not fair to you that I tried getting you to leave Eddie, trust me I know I fucked up...But at the end of the day, I just want you to be happy... are you happy?" He asked.
Without hesitation you replied "Yes".
"Then that's all I want for you" he smirked.
"Thanks Steve" you blushed "I um, I have one more question" you hesitated.
"Sure, anything" he said as he leaned against the door.
"Would you um. This is a little weird for me to be asking" you chuckled as you picked at your already chipped black nail polish "Would you do the honours of walking me down the aisle?" You looked back up.

Steve stood there for a moment, not really sure on what to say right away. You could see tears forming in his eyes "Oh Steve I didn't mean to-" he cut you off with a hug.
"Yes. I'll do it" he said softly.
The sound of Steve crying on your shoulder sent you into a sobbing mess. Steve pulled away from the hug "Hey hey" he said as he wiped the tears from your eyes "It's okay Y/N, everything's okay" he reassured you.
"I just- I just feel like everything's moving so fast Steve. I was fine until today. For some reason I just started questioning everything and now I don't know what the hell I'm doing" you sobbed.

He pulled you in for another hug, this one shorter than the last "Does it make you feel better if I tell you that I'm still living at home with my parents AND still single?" He chuckled "You've got more of your life together than I could ever imagine" He laughed.
You sniffed "You're right" you laughed with him "Guess this means I'm really doing it huh?" You asked.
"Yes. But I'll be right there with you okay?" He said as he held onto your shoulders.
"Okay" you said quietly.

Steve opened the door to let you out "Oh, and one more thing" he said "If Munson ever tries to hurt you I will kill him, and trust me that is a promise" he chuckled.
You held your hand beside your temple to salute him "Roger that" you laughed.

The smile on your face stayed as you approached Robin "How'd it go?" She asked as the two of you started walking back to her place.
"It went.. surprisingly well?" You said.
"That sounded like a question, are you sure?" She chuckled.
"Yes, yea I just" you sighed "I just feel like everything is really starting to hit me... like I'm getting MARRIED" you said.
"You're just realizing that now?" She looked over at you.
"No, of course not, I just- it's really starting to hit me that I'm going to be someone's wife right away" you said as you ran your fingers through your hair.
"Well, you better get used to it Mrs Munson" she smiled as she rested her elbow on your shoulder.
"Now, here's the real question" she looked over at you again "Are you ready for your bachelorette?" She flashed a giant toothy grin.
"Oh god yes" you smiled back at her.
