Part 58 - HEY STEVE

"Mom! I'm heading to Eddie's now!" You yelled.
"Okay hun, don't forget to invite him over to dinner tomorrow!!" She yelled back.
"Will do!" You said as you left the house.

As you headed down the block you opened up your bag and grabbed your cassette player and headphones.
"Y/N?" You heard a voice call from behind you.
You turned around and saw Steve lightly jog towards you as he smiled.
"Hey!" You said as he got closer.
"How've you been? I feel like I haven't seen you in awhile" he said as he patted your shoulder.
"I'm good, how are you?" You asked as you looked down at the flowers in his hand.
"I'm good, these are uh- these are for Nance" he said nervously.
"Oh yea?" You said with a smile.
"Yea" he laughed nervously as he rubbed the back of his neck "Her and uh... Jonathon recently broke up so I'm just trying to be there for her" he paused. You chuckled. "What?" He asked.
"Nothing" you smiled.
"No come on, say it" Steve said as he looked at you.
"I just-I always knew you and Nance had a thing for each other" you smiled as you gestures to the flowers
"Oh come on, no. I'm just her friend" he said.

You could tell he was lying through his teeth about liking Nancy but you weren't going to pry anymore, you did love teasing him though.
"Whatever you say Steve" you smirked as you looked forward.
The two of you walked in silence for a moment.
"Um..Where's your car? I only ever see you driving around" you asked.
"It was making a god awful noise so my dad had it sent to the shop to get checked. So it's shoelace highway until I get it back" he chuckled "Where are you headed?" Steve asked.
"Eddie's place, we're supposed to study for our upcoming test and have dinner with his uncle tonight" you said "I think tomorrow after school he's going to take me around town to drop off some resumes" you added.
"Oh! Well hey! Come by Video Cellar! I can totally hook you up with a job if you'd like!" He exclaimed.
"Really?" You asked.
"Yea of course! Plus you'd get to work with me, and Robin obviously" he had a smug smile plastered across his face.
"I actually wouldn't mind that Steve, thank you" you said as you looked up into his eyes.
"Of course, Y/N. Just trying to help out a friend" he said "This is my turn off, I'll see you tomorrow?" He asked.
You nodded "Yea, I'll see you tomorrow. Thanks again Steve" you smiled.

As you continued on your walk you played with the cord of your headphones, you couldn't help but think about Steve. He seems to care deeply about you. He really has become a redeemable guy, finally.

When you finally arrived at Eddie's you walked up to the door and gave a few knocks. You could hear shuffling around before the door opened, Eddie greeted you with a big toothy grin "Hey babe" he said as he let you inside.
"Hey" you said as you walked in.
"Come on I have to show you something before we study" he said with excitement as he grabbed your arm and ran towards his room. You sat on the bed as you watched Eddie rustle around his dresser drawer before turning around "Okay close your eyes and give me your hand" he said.

Doing as you were told you closed your eyes and held out your hands. You felt something drop in your hand seconds after you closed your eyes.
"Okay open them" Eddie said. You opened your eyes and looked down, it was a ring.
"Eddie" you whispered as you took a closer look
"It's the same as the one I wear on my right hand" he smiled "you're always playing and admiring mine so I got you your own so we can match"
You put the ring on your right ring finger, it fit perfectly, you looked up at Eddie and stood up
"Thank you babe, I love it" you said as you hugged him. His tattooed arms wrapped around you "Of course" he hummed. As you tried to pull away Eddie brought you into his arms tighter this time.
"Y/N?" He whispered.
"Yes?" You whispered back.
"Let's take a little camping trip over spring break. What do you say?" He asked.
You looked up into his big brown eyes "I'd love that" you said "before I forget, my mom wants you to come over for dinner tomorrow"
"I'd like that" Eddie said as he smiled "now I never thought I'd say this but should we start studying?" He chuckled.
"Yea that's not a bad idea" you laughed "I'll grab the books"
