EMILY'S POV:

Everything was black. My thoughts were painful and slow. I could feel my heartbeat pounding in my skull. There was a band of tension around my forehead. It hurt to breathe. Everything hurt.

LOKI POV

"Has there been any update?" Stark's voice broke through the silence and I blinked rapidly, breaking my efforts to try and reach Emily's mind. There had been something stirring in there, but if it was her consciousness or not, I couldn't figure out. Whatever she was feeling though made me feel groggy and exhausted, reading someone's mind often transferred their emotions too.

"Nothing." I murmured, sinking back down into my chair, crossing my arms over my chest.

Banner and Stark walked over to Emily and checked up on her vitals before changing the slightly bloody bandage while I watched them the whole time. Banner checked the trip to make sure that it was giving her enough of what she needed.

"You should really get some rest Loki." Stark spoke up and I looked over at him sharply, unable to believe that he had called me by my actual name for the first time in probably forever.

"I'm fine." I muttered, looking back over at Emily.

"Tony's right Loki." Banner spoke up and I sighed, glaring at him. "Emily's not going to be waking up any time soon, her vitals are the same. You might as well get some rest."

"But she's going to be okay, isn't she?" I ignored everything else they said, sitting up in my chair a little straighter.

"The antibiotics are starting to work." Banner nodded. "But the poison is potent, it will take a little while."

"Do you know how long?" I demanded and Banner fixed up his glasses.

"It will at least be maybe 24 hours before we see any positive change in her vitals." He replied.

"Which is plenty of time for you to get some sleep." Stark interrupted and looked at him, slumping back in my chair.

"I'll sleep here." I replied in a tone that left no room for argument. Banner looked at Stark, who sighed exhaustedly and shrugged before walking out of the Laboratory.

I turned back to face Emily and slowly moved closer to her, sitting on the edge of the bed and gently taking her hand in mine. I rested my hand over her wrist, letting my fingers feel the weak pulse under her warm skin. I had to do this a couple of times to remind myself that she was still alive and hold onto the hope that she would pull through this.

I reached out into her mind again, closing my eyes as I pushed through the darkness covering it to try and find some signs that she was still alive inside.

EMILY POV

I knew my eyes were closed. I tried to open them, but they were too heavy. Everything felt heavy. Everything still hurt. My lungs ached with every small breathe I took. The pain seemed to come from... around my stomach.

LOKI POV

There was something there, something was stirring the darkness, but the more I looked for it, the more it seemed to recoil back into the darkness. It was giving me the same groggy feeling again. I had to eventually stop, because the endless searching was giving me a pounding headache as I drained my powers and I knew that only sleep would be able to fix.

Double checking that none of the Avengers were hovering around anywhere, I walked back over to the chair next to Emily's bed and conjured myself up a blanket, wrapping it around my shoulders before I sunk into a worried sleep.

It took me a while to actually fall asleep properly, I couldn't stop thinking about Emily and what she had done. Guilt was eating me up inside for not doing anything to help her, for not being there to help her, for not realizing how deep in a spiral of sadness that she was in.
