Chapter Six - Better Off Without Me

I felt something cold against my forehead and I slowly opened my eyes, blinking at the blurry shape hovering above me.

"Emily?" Asked a voice cautiously and I looked over to my left to see another blurry shape.

"I..." I croaked slightly, my vision slowly clearing and I immediately saw Bucky hovering over me. He was crouching down next to me, holding something cold and damp against my pounding head as I looked around confused. "What happened?"

"HYDRA tried to control your mind again." Tony spoke up and I looked over at him sharply to see that he had multiple dints and scorch marks on his Iron Man suit from where he was kneeling down next to me. "You kinda lost control."

"Did I hurt anyone?" I immediately asked, slowly sitting up, Bucky putting a steady hand on my shoulder. Everyone looked over to something behind me and I immediately spun around to see a figure laying against the far wall, stirring slightly with Thor kneeling down next to them.

"Loki." I whispered, twisting away from Bucky's hand and stumbling over to him, Thor helping to steady me, his grip a little tight like he was expecting me to loose control again. "Loki, are you okay?" He slowly raised his head and I saw that it was pinched with pain.

"I'm fine." He said hoarsely, wincing.

I looked down and saw that he had both his hands at his stomach, blood seeping through it as he tried to heal it. I gently removed one of the hands, despite him trying to hold it in place, and caught a glimpse of the horrible wound, which was a massive black hole burnt through his clothes and into his skin. His skin was puckered and puffy, swollen red as blood seeped through his clothes, hands and onto the floor.

I gasped and stumbled backwards, not able to watch as he put his hand back over the wound, slowly healing himself. Pepper crouched down next to me and I moved out of Thor's grip to bury my head into her shoulder. I felt like such a monster, one day back and I had almost killed the one person who had the most faith in me, except for maybe Bucky.

I eventually saw Loki stand up shakily, leaning heavily on his brother's shoulder, which he didn't looked too happy about it. He hobbled over to me and slid his arm off his brother's shoulder, kneeling down next to me and placing a gently hand on my shoulder. I flinched under his touch and he quickly removed his hand as I turned further away from him, sadness basically radiating off him.

"Emily." He said gently. "Emily, look at me. Please."

I shook my head against Pepper's shoulder, and I heard him slowly stand up, stepping away from me with a sigh. Pepper rubbed my back softly and I fought back tears..

"You should get that looked at Reindeer Games." Said Tony, his voice loud in the silence of the room.

"It is fine." Loki replied in a firmer voice. "I healed it. I'm just going to get some rest, using my magic can be exhausting."

I flinched against Pepper again at his harsher voice, which was no doubt directed to me. He probably thought I was a monster now, he would never trust me again. I strained my ears to listen for his footsteps going up the stairs and when I was sure he was gone, I slowly lifted my face from Pepper's shoulder. However, I immediately lurched back from her when I saw small little puffy burn marks littering her shoulder.

"It's okay." She smiled softly, her eyes immediately filling with sadness as I stared at the burn marks from where my face had been resting against her. "It doesn't hurt.

"I'm sorry." I whispered, holding my hands shakily against my chest.

"Emily, its okay." Pepper tried to reach for me, but I flinched my head, shaking my head rapidly.

"Don't come near me." My voice was shaky. "I don't want to hurt you."

"I think it might be a good time to bring back the bracelets." Tony said.

I looked away at the thought of the bracelets to hold back my powers. I was such a monster, I couldn't even control my own powers any more. What if one day I exploded and I ended up hurting one of them badly? Or even worse, what if I killed one of them? Or all of them?

I was a danger to them, without me they would be safe. Without me they wouldn't be in any danger. Without me, they would be better off.
