I sat on the edge of the bed, staring down at the light shining off the clutch purse as I waited for the others to finish getting ready. It took them several minutes and soon, I found myself standing at the top of the staircase leading down to the kitchen and lounge area of the compound. Except it was completely different.
The kitchen bench was covered in finger food, people standing and chatting beside it as the Christmas music drummed throughout the whole room, so loud that I could feel it in my chest. My eyes darted over the swarming crowds moving across the lounge room floor that had been completely cleared of furniture. The lights had been dimmed and it was quite dark, only occasionally flashing lights, normally green or red, illuminating faces.
"You okay?" Wanda spoke up from next to me as I swallowed thickly, my heart beginning to thrum against my chest..
"Its very loud." I murmured softly, my eyes darting around the crowds, trying to look for familiar faces, whether it was the Avengers or HYDRA.
"You'll be fine." She smiled encouragingly to me. "Come on, you don't want to miss out."
She put a hand gently on my shoulder and pushed me forward until I was walking down the stairs. Pepper, Nat and Yelena had already disappeared into the crowd, but thankfully, Wanda stayed with me.
"I'll introduce you to some people." She almost had to yell over the sound of the music as we reached the bottom of the stairs. "Tony had already told everyone about you, so there's no need to worry."
I nodded, making sure to stick close to her as she weaved her way through the crowds. I swallowed back the thick lump that was building in my throat, hiding my shudders at everyone brushed past me, trying to face my legs away from them so they wouldn't feel my daggers under my dress.
When she eventually stopped, I noticed we were in front of Steve and Bucky at the bar, with an unfamiliar man standing between them.
"You look beautiful tonight Emily." Steve smiled at me, causing me to smile weakly, as Bucky looked at me up and down.
"У тебя есть при себе оружие?" (Do you have weapons on you?) He asked, our eyes meeting.
"Yes." I murmured, squirming a little under the look the new man gave both me and Bucky.
"Emily, this is Sam." Steve thankfully interrupted, giving me a small smile like he noticed my unease.
"Sam Wilson." The man added, holding out his hand to shake as he smiled slightly, seeming somewhat wary of me. "It's good to finally meet you, I've heard a lot."
Judging by his wary look, I didn't doubt that he had heard some bad things, but I still gave him a small smile, my eyes quickly taking in his suit and the faint shape of a gun tucked into the pocket.
The four of them, including Wanda, quickly got caught up in a conversation, but I turned it out, instead scanning the rest of the faces around me. My instinct made me quickly search for signs of weapons on them, but it was too difficult when the lights were constantly flashing different colours and throwing me off.
"Lady Emily!" A booming voice suddenly rang out, causing me to jump and spin around, the other four cutting off their conversation.
As I turned around, I saw the crowds parting rapidly, Thor's head and shoulders rising over the top of them all. His Asgardian armour shone in the lights, causing me to wince a little at how bright it was.
"Hey Thor." I smiled weakly as he towered over me.
"You look dazzling, as usual." He grinned, causing me to blush bright red at how loud he was. "I have something I want to show you. You'll enjoy it."
He began to walk away and I quickly looked back over at Wanda, who was grinning and nodded for me to go. I quickly hurried away after Thor, just managing to see through the crowds, following his armour to the bar, where Nat was sitting with people I didn't know. She gave me a grin and I gave her a quick smile before Thor spoke again, sitting down at one of the seats on the bar.
"Have you ever had a drink before?" He asked.
I shook my head slowly, causing him to make a motion to one of the bar tenders, who came over almost immediately. My eyes quickly flicked to them, my eyes instinctively darting over the dark clothes they we wearing.
"Give this lady a nice glass of your Midgardian champagne." Thor said to them and they nodded, not even questioning how he used the word 'Midgardian'.
I watched them warily, making sure that whatever drink they were making for me wasn't spiked by any chance. They poured me some sort of pale, slightly yellow bubbly liquid into a tiny wine glass and set it down on the bar in front of my . I hesitantly picked it up, immediately sniffing it for any signs of spiking even though I had watched them the whole time. When I didn't smell anything off, I hesitantly took a sip, my eyes widening slightly at the flavour. After a small sip, I set it back down on the bar.
"Well?" Thor asked me, watching me with a big grin. "What do you think?"
"It's..." I began, trying think of how to describe the taste. "It's actually pretty good."
I picked up the glass again and took another sip and Thor took a swig from his big bucket of beer that the bartender had just topped up. Thor got me to drink the rest of the champagne, even though it was a little bit too much. He immediately got me to have a glass of another drink, which was apparently called Baileys, and then a Tequila and then Vodka, which seemed faintly familiar. I was through me second cup of Baileys, which was by far my favourite, when someone interrupted our drink tasting.
"How may of those have you had Emily?" Asked Bruce, looking warily at all of the cups behind me.
"Ummm." I tried to speak, but my my words came out all slurred. My head felt lightheaded and I blinked rapidly as several versions of Bruce's face appeared.
"Three champagne, one Tequila, one Vodka and two Baileys." Thor filled in for me, grinning proudly. She's fine Banner. Her body seems to handle your Midgardian alcohol than the rest of you. Who knows, I might get her to try some Asgardian beer next."
"Don't even think about it Thor." Came a new voice and I got my bar chair to spin around to face Loki, who was standing behind me.
"Hey Loki." A smile split over my face, several versions of his face appearing in front of me.
"How much have you had of that Emily?" His eyes darted to the glasses sitting in front of me on the bar. "You literally reek of it."
"She's fine." Thor chuckled, taking another gulp of his beer. "She tolerates it perfectly fine."
"She's not a super solider Thor." Bruce shot him a look. "It will still affect her somehow. It's not healthy for her."
"How about a dance then?" Lokioffered with a small smirk on his lips, his eyes lighting up a little with theidea. "To work off some of the drinks?"
