"He should be." It was the uncertainty that didn't sit right with Simon. The way that even Jemma Simmons of all people didn't fully hold out hope that the youngest among them wouldn't be able to survive this. To make it through this.
There was a chance that he would be the one to break the loop in his own way. A paradox to save them all. But then, Simon would be that anomaly. Even more so than he already was...
That terrified the older version of said boy. Meanwhile, Daisy tried to hide her fear. Hide her reaction. Try and make the pang in her chest not mean anything at the moment. Try and hide it all away.
She failed at that.
"You almost got him killed," she said, looking to Fitz. The man turned to her, expression hurt, but also sort of flat as well.
"Was one Johnson not enough? Take us both out, was that it?"
"No –"
"Look at him, Fitz!" he did so, "you, Jemma, Elena, you took him there. You scared him and forced him to go; and now he's the one paying for it. Just like I did with the Fear Dimension."
This was it. This was the only thing keeping her from just breaking down there fully. From letting everything that was going on all get to her in that moment.
Jemma hated giving the news. Hated having to operate on him again. See how deep of a wound Ruby left on him. It left her to wonder just how he had survived. Or rather, held out, as long as he had done.
It hadn't hit anything major. It left a deep wound all the same. Both to him, and the moral of the others.
They all knew where he sat in regards to his own life. They knew that he'd let it go in an instant if it would save them.
Now, maybe that would become a reality.
Jemma left the room, having tried to block out her husband being ripped apart by her friend. The couple shared a look, before all parties departed. Mack was the last to go, giving Daisy a pat on the shoulder, and Simon a nod, before it being just the two Johnson people. Simon still couldn't bring himself to say the "S" word. He would once or twice, but then he'd be reminded of how that ended...
"Does this – Does this happen.... Did it happen before?" Daisy's words brought him out of his head. She had struggled to get the words out. She also struggled to move her gaze away from her dying and maybe soon-to-be dead best friend who laid on the bed like Yo-Yo had. Only the woman was alive when she had come back.
Anger for her aside, she was glad she wasn't dead.
Daisy was here, and so was Aaron. And there was a very real chance that he couldn't be the next time she would come back. She had to make sure that this reality wouldn't come to pass. She needed some hope.
"I don't really remember. Everything with that just became a blur. A distant memory." Daisy scoffed.
"Fucking fantastic." She spat as she walked away.
Simon let out a sigh. He knew that he deserved this. Or, rather, that. He deserved that. But Daisy had started cracking now. Everyone around her was capable of dying. Even one who she was so sure that wouldn't. The one person she would bet her life on that would be able to make it.
First, her father figure didn't want help and seemed accepting of his fate. Now....Now her little br—
Friend. Now her friend was back where he normally wanted, mentally, to be. In a place that was starting to seem like home to him now. That thought disturbed her.
The place in question was a place his two most recent trips had taken him too as well. The place between the two parts of the void. Living and dead.
Jemma had told them that she could only do so much for their friend. She could do what she could to keep him alive. But, the British scientist was scared that it wouldn't be enough. Terrified that she would actually have to let him die so Coulson or someone else could make it.
