The Devil Complex

"Hey...Aaron." Daisy trailed off her greeting to her friend. She found him sitting in the middle of his room with wide eyes, lip bleeding. He placed his fingers on it. Pulling away and seeing the blood. He raised his head up, taking calming breaths as he did so.

Daisy slowly approached him, lowering herself to his level. She pressed her hand against his knee. It gained his attention, and she saw his eyes were slightly glazed over. She tried to give him a soothing smile. One that turned a little shaky.

"What did you see?" She asked softly, his eyes went from her and to the floor again. She waited, but gained no answer, "You can trust me, bud. You can tell me. Just take your time." She only kept her gaze on him as he opened and closed his mouth a few times. His eyes became more and more tearful.

He met her gaze again, a tear running down his face, bottom lip trembling, "My sister." Daisy's face turned confused. Mention of Katie hurt her too. But, would it be a fear? Not that she'd be aware of.

"I had one. Shared a womb with a twin. She was meant to be first. I was instead, premature and all that. She died. She –" More tears followed him, Daisy felt herself break at her friend and his admission. The way he just crumbled into himself on the floor.

"Hey, no. No, you didn't cause that. I wouldn't have met you otherwise. I wouldn't have met you otherwise." She strained her ears to try and listen to his reply. But failed, "What was that, bud?"

"Maybe it would've been for the better. Maybe my twin would've been the better one," He looked up at her with his broken gaze, "That's the thing with twins, right? The good and bad one?" Daisy didn't know how to spin this one to try and help him. To try and find a positive in it.

She only offered him a hand instead, helping him off the ground.

"The Gravitonium from Deke's.... Gravity gizmo was intensely compressed. Refined in a way that I cannot duplicate with the raw element we got from the Principia."

"Let alone inserting it into this new device." Jemma continued her husband's explanation of their new issue. Fitz turned to address the others, "So, I was hoping that Deke might be able to have some more insight into exactly how this works." They all looked at him, but he only looked at them with a mouth open. Simon clicked his fingers in front of Deke's face. The action snapping him out of it.

"Ok, well I don't know much about the stuff inside. I just.... Know that it saved....Saved my arse like a thousand times." Deke seemed to be somewhere else. Aaron's anger and impatience got the better of him, "The one time we need something from you. The one fucking time we need you to talk and be useful. And this is all that you have?!" Simon walked over to the boy. Trying to control him, only for Aaron to back away.

"How much do you actually know? Why not share it with us?" Simon didn't talk, only watched the boy, "Oh for fucks sake, you too? Jesus Christ."

"Aaron. Take a chill pill. Either way, the short amount of time that we've bought ourselves is up. So, what's the plan?" Fitz started to pace as he started to rant about how his plan was only temporary, and it could blow at any minute.

"Thus, releasing more of these anomalies into the base."

"Great." The three friends watched as their forth took a hit from a flask. Simon was over instantly, snatching it off the boy, "Stop going through my shit."

"Sure thing, dad. Whatever you say. Arsehole." Aaron muttered the last part, but Simon still heard it. He turned from Aaron, silently screaming as he walked back towards Deke.

"Or worse out into the world." Daisy looked at her best friend with concern, "Are you ok, by the way? That could not have been easy."

"I'm fine. The astronaut isn't even my greatest fear. Goodness knows what else could come crawling out of there." Daisy felt the weight of those words as she walked away.
