Rose sat in Delilah's hotel room with her arms around her friend while both of them silently thought of what had happened with dried tears on their cheeks. When no more sobs could be heard in the room the girls slowly entangled from their hug, both with red and puffy eyes.

"Can you tell me what she said now?" Delilah asked with a soft voice.

"Well, to start with, the Spirit bond between us was created when Lissa apparently resurrected me after the accident," as Rose talked Delilah was at a loss for words. "I'm shadow-kissed."

"After telling me this, she said that she's been passing her darkness onto me and that's why she no longer wants me as her Guardian," after finishing the sentence Rose almost broke down again but managed to hold it together.

"I'm so sorry Rose, I can talk to her," Delilah, as always, was trying to find the best solution with a plan brewing in her head already as she momentarily forgot about Dimitri.

"I don't think that's going to happen. Lissa mentioned that until she finds a way to stop passing the darkness through the bond she won't see me or you."

"Excuse me?" Delilah was shocked by how her cousin thought that would be a good idea.

"Something to do with the fact that you too are linked to us, even if only a little."

The silence that followed was filled with only the outside sounds coming from the open window. Rose inhaled quietly and reached for Delilah's hand.

"What happened?"

"I, uh, it started, uh," she could already feel her tears gathering in her eyes again but she pulled them back before continuing. "Okay, I went to talk to Dimitri about, well, about us. He was angry I tried to help him with the Strigois last night. I mean I get it, if it was the other way around I would be angry too."

"Well he, I guess, confessed he feels the same way I feel about him," a small, sad smile appeared on her face as she looked down at their hands and continued. "And even if we want the same thing, he said what happened last night couldn't happen again."

"Asshole," Rose muttered as her anger started to grow. It made Delilah look up at her with slightly raised eyebrows.

"He's an asshole," she repeated herself as she put her hand on Delilah's shoulder, looking her straight into her eyes. "If he chooses his duty over you, he's an asshole."

A soft chuckle left Delilah's lips as she lightly shook her head. It felt nice to be understood by her friend and at that moment she realised something both girls had in common. Both fell in love with people who hurt them by trying to keep them safe.

"I'm sorry Rose. I know one day she will see how much you love her."

Before the said girl could ask her what she meant a knock could be heard. Delilah stood up and went to the door. She wiped her cheeks, trying to look less like she had just cried and opened the door.

The hotel's staff member handed her an envelope before disappearing without so much as a hello or goodbye. Delilah shut the door and turned to Rose while opening the envelope. Taking the paper out she read out loud its contents.

Dear Delilah,
I'm visiting St. Vladimir's for a few days.
Hopefully, we'll be able to catch up
and you can finally show me around.
Your dearest,
Z.P.
