The hallway leading up to the event was crowded with Moroi of every status. Delilah was waiting alongside Zach as they agreed on accompanying one another to the match.
"Lady Delilah Dragomir and Lord Zachariah Pavlovich."
Walking inside they were momentarily blinded by the red and blue lights. Knowing her cousin wasn't there yet, the pair stood by a bar while looking over the room. And even if Lissa was there, Delilah wasn't sure if her relative would want to speak to her.
Inside the fighting ring were two clowns play-fighting as they were watched by the vampires around them. Every few seconds a new wave of laughter could be heard even over the loud music.
"So very exciting," Zach spoke as his eyes scanned the people in the room. "I mean look at how thrilled they are at the idea of a fight. One might suggest the Dhampir should be replaced by them."
"Are you one of them?" She asked snorting as she turned her head towards him, seeing how a smirk was plastered on his face.
"Of course. Who wouldn't want to get all bloody and sweaty while fighting for their life? It's my greatest dream," his sarcasm was something she enjoyed very much. Especially after the recent events.
Delilah turned her gaze over the crowd again. Her eyes met with Rose's as Mason helped her by wrapping her hands. The Moroi raised her glass towards her friend with a friendly and encouraging smile.
Rose smiled back before scanning the crowd for a certain Guardian. She didn't know if Delilah knew about Dimitri being her tonight's opponent and she started feeling a bit anxious about it.
"There you have it, a crowd of suspects," Mason said, tightening the bandage around her palm, before naming them out. "Dane Zeklos, Marie Carter, Peter Tarus."
"I wish I could remember the accident. Maybe I saw something," her voice was filled with fatigue she couldn't afford, not right now.
"Well, you know who you could ask."
"No," there was a pause between them as they looked at each other.
"When are you gonna tell me what she did that hurt you so much?" Mason asked as he finished wrapping her hands.
"I have a fight to prepare for," Rose turned and walked towards the changing rooms.
Seeing her friend hastily walk out, Dalilah furrowed her brows but before she could excuse herself and go check if everything was alright a new arrival was announced.
"Lady Vasilissa Dragomir and her betrothed, Lord Christian Ozera."
Everyone turned their full attention towards the entrance as the pair came to view. Both of them looked nervously around, trying to find a free table.
Delilah turned back to Zach with a frown. His eyes were wide from the shock. He heard what happened to Christian's parents and even though he didn't hold it against him, Zach knew how the other Morois saw it.
"Well that was unexpected," he managed to get out before the voice of their queen filled the room.
"Welcome to the Trial by Proxy. Our candidates have each selected two warriors to do battle on their behalf. By grace of the Elements, let us hope they have chosen wisely."
"Lady Vogel has selected Guardian Dimitri Belikov," the announced Dhampir stepped into the ring while the crowd either applauded or booed at him.
Seeing him and hearing he was selected by Tatiana made Delilah's heart drop. Without even knowing it, Delilah walked closer to the ring with Zach right behind her. Now they stood by a group of young, cheering Moroi at the bottom of the stairs.
