The team dispersed. Everyone getting suited up like we always did back when we were a full team. Tony signaled to me to follow behind him as he left the room. I trailed behind him waiting for him to explain what he wanted. He didn't say anything until we reached where he kept his stuff.
"Here," Tony slid a briefcase across the floor. "I packed it for you when I left."
I picked it up and placed it on the table. I glanced towards him confused, to which he only gestured to the case. I flicked open the latches and opened the case. My eyes traced the familiar black cloth of my old suit, except this one was different then the previous ones. It had a new kind of shine to it. My fingers played with the fabric for a moment, it felt different too. I looked to Tony for an explanation.
"I had one of your old suits laced with Vibranium." Tony crossed his arms as he leaned against the table. "I figured it would be stronger than your Asgardian clothes, but if you still wanted to wear them you could wear this underneath and you'd still have a stronger suit."
I smiled softly as I pulled the suit from the briefcase holding it up by the shoulders, my eyes tracing every inch of it. I glanced towards Tony and smiled. He had grown to be one of my closest friends. I had never expected that. I remember disliking him when I first heard about him.
"Thanks, Tony." I held out my hand for him to shake it, but instead he pulled me into a hug. "What's this for?"
"Everything." Tony answered as he pulled away from me, his face more serious than ever. "I have something to ask of you."
I placed my suit back into the case as I turned to give Tony my full attention. I already had an idea of what he was going to say. He was in this to get Peter back. Tony had never really been able to move on from losing the kid. He had always seen it as his fault. He was just as in this as I was. He wasn't going to give up, not this time.
"If something were to happen to me," Tony locked eyes with me. "I need to know you'll protect Morgan, you'll make sure she gets to grow old and have the best life she can have. I need you to promise me that."
"First off, you won't be dying," Tony sighed as I stepped towards him. "Second off, I made you that promise years ago and I'm not breaking it."
"I'm gonna hold you to it." Tony smirked softly.
"Not until you're old, frail, and unable to stand, Tony." I smiled back, earning a laugh from him.
"I make no promises." Tony held up his hands as he backed out of the room. "Get suited up, we have a time heist to pull off."
I rolled my eyes and smiled as he closed the door. No one was dying for this mission. Not on my watch. We were going to get everyone back without any casualties on our part, I'd make sure of it.
I pulled on my suit, the fabric cool against my skin. I missed this suit. It has always been one of my favorites. My Asgardian armor was too much of a reminder of my past with Ela. I kept the mask part of my suit down as I left the room to regroup with the others.
When I reached the group, Tony handed me the time travel device. We all had one. I pulled it on my wrist clicking the button to have the suit form over my clothes. The helmet stayed off for now as I followed behind the others to reach the quantum platform. Once we all stood on the platform, we separated into our groups and formed a circle as Steve started talking.
"Five years ago, we lost." Steve looked over all of us. "All of us. We lost friends. We lost family. We lost a part of ourselves. Today, we have a chance to take it all back. You know your teams. You know your missions. Get the stones. Get them back." Steve held out his hand in the middle of the circle and everyone followed, placing their hands in as well. "One round-trip each. No mistakes, no do-overs. Most of us are going somewhere we know. That doesn't mean we should know what to expect. Be careful. Look out for each other. This is the fight of our lives and we're gonna win." Steve paused, locking eyes with Tony. "Whatever it takes." Steve looked away from Tony and over all of us. "Good luck."
Everyone stepped back from the tight knit circle we had created. The group stood closer together than the others. I stood in between Natasha and Clint. Bruce was the only one not on the platform, he was clicking a few buttons on the control panel, getting it ready for our departure.
"All right. You heard the man." Tony called to Bruce. "Stroke those keys Jolly Green."
Bruce answered but I didn't pick up on it as Clint held open his palm revealing the shrunken Guardian's ship. We'd need it to get to Morag and Vormir. My eyes went to Rocket who had his arms crossed and he watched Clint closely.
"You promise to bring that back in one piece," Rocket spoke, gesturing to the ship. "Right?"
"Yeah, yeah," Clint brushed him off. "I'll do my best."
"As promises go," Rocket mumbled to himself as Bruce joined us on the platform. "That was pretty lame."
With Bruce's arrival everyone prepared for the time jump. I glanced at Thor, giving him a smile and a reassuring nod. He had had worries about stumbling into Frigga and having to face her on the day she died. My eyes then went to Tony, who gave me a nod, telling me he wouldn't do anything rash. Bruce clicked a button on his wrist signaling the countdown.
"See you in a minute." Natasha smiled looking over everyone as the machine came to life and began to spin around us.
Our helmets came on automatically as the machine came to its full power and sucked us into the time tunnel that was basically the Bi-frost but for time. Within a few seconds we'd be on our way to Morag and the Vormir. This was our chance and we were going to win, no matter what.
