Life Dies In The End

Chapter 66

It didn't take long for us to reach 2014 and to enlarge the Guardian's ship. Nebula set course to Morag and we were off. It wouldn't take long, maybe 20 minutes. It's not like it mattered. We didn't have a time limit like when I went back in time. This time we could take as long as needed.

Reaching Morag, we followed Rhodey out of the ship, leaving just Nebula aboard. She was gonna drop off the escape pod and then Clint, Natasha, and I would head to Vormir. Rhodey helped Nebula guide the escaped pod to a safe landing on the planet as I glanced around.

It was dark and gray but nowhere near creepy, it had more of an April storm feeling to it. I glanced down at my foot where an Orloni bit at my shoe. Orlonis were native to Morag, I had only ever seen them in Asgardian books. There wasn't anything special about them. They were basically a lizard in space. I nudged the Orloni off my foot as Natasha looked down at it disgusted.

"Hey," Clint called to Rhodey. "Can we hurry it up?"

"Guys, chop-chop." Natasha backed up Clint. "Come on. We're on the clock."

"All that is really helpful." Rhodey rolled his eyes as he glanced back at us.

Rhodey turned back to helping Nebula as the Orloni returned to biting at my foot. It kind of reminded me of Bastard, in a way. I bent down to pick it up, only to have it bite at my finger. I quickly jerked away and mumbled a small 'fine asshole' as I stood back up. Natasha laughed softly from her spot.

"Who knew you were good with animals?" Clint smiled softly, looking down at the Orloni still biting at my foot.

"Ha ha." I rolled my eyes as I pushed away the Orloni with my foot again. "I'll have you know my cat would disagree with you."

Clint laughed softly as the Guardian's ship landed on Morag and Rhodey signaled to us to regroup. The hatch to the ship opened as we made it to Rhodey's side. Nebula stepped out and joined us as we said our goodbyes to Rhodey.

"Take care, okay?" Natasha pulled Rhodey into a hug.

"Yeah." Rhodey pulled out of the hug as he looked over all of us. "Get that stone and come back. No messing around."

Clint patted Rhodey's shoulder showing that he understood and saying goodbye. Natasha nodded at Rhodey as she and Clint began to enter the ship. I went to follow them but Rhodey grabbed my arm stopping me. His eyes locked with mine as he spoke.

"You watch their sixes." Rhodey held out his hand for me to shake it and I accepted. "Don't let anything happen to them."

I nodded at Rhodey knowing what he was trying to say. If something were to happen, they'd be on an unfamiliar plan and at a disadvantage. He wasn't saying Natasha and Clint were weak, he was saying that I needed to make sure they weren't pushed outside if their capabilities.

"You take care of yourself." I let go of Rhodey's hand and smiled slightly. "Make it back in one piece and I might be able to heal your legs."

Rhodey smiled as he knocked on the side of his suit's leg. Tony had told me what had happened. It was a freak accident that happened during the team's separation. Vision had meant to hit someone else, but accidentally hit Rhodey instead causing him to plummet to the ground from high above. The impact nearly killed him. He was lucky to be alive, but he didn't get out of it without losing the capability to use his legs. Tony had made him braces that made it so he could walk, but without them he couldn't. If I had the time I could probably heal him, probably.

I gave Nebula a nod before heading into the ship. She had set the coordinates into the ship so it would pilot itself to Vormir. I pressed the button to close the hatch as the ship came to life. Natasha and Clint had taken the two seats in the front, so I sat behind them as it started on its course to Vormir.

"What?" Natasha turned to Clint who was laughing softly as he looked out at the galaxy around him.

"We're a long way from Budapest." Clint smiled, causing a laugh to escape Natasha and I.

Indeed we were. In a few hours we'd have everyone back. All we needed to do was get this stone. The others would do their part, there was no doubt in that. Soon I'd have my brother back safe and sound. All we needed was this stone and I'd get it no matter what it cost.
