I pulled myself to my feet quickly as I reached the surface. Natasha had made it through moments after me. We shared a look and she nodded at me telling me she was good and I could go. I moved quickly as I spotted Tony, Steve and Thor standing and watching something. Reaching their sides, I easily found what they were watching.
Thanos sat in the middle of the rubble, with his sword propped into the ground and his helmet resting on it. It was almost as if he was waiting. Waiting for us to strike first. I looked at Steve, Tony, and Thor.
"What's he been doing?" Steve asked, breaking the silence.
"Absolutely nothing." Thor answered as he shook his head.
"Where are the stones?" I spoke, knowing that was why Thanos was here.
"Somewhere under all this." Tony gestured to the rubble. "All I know is he doesn't have 'em."
"So, we keep it that way." Steve's eyes stayed on Thanos as he spoke.
Thanos waiting meant one thing. It was a trap and Steve was willing to walk right into it. We didn't have any better options. It was this or wait for Thanos to get a hold of the stones and that wasn't allowed to happen.
"You know it's a trap," I looked at the others hoping they knew what they were getting themselves into. "Right?"
"Yeah." Tony nodded as his suit came on around him. "I don't much care."
"Good." Thor extended his hands out as the sky darkened. "Just as long as we're all in agreement." Thunder filled the air as both Stormbreaker and Mjolnir, which he had managed to get while he was getting the Reality Stone, came to his hands. "Let's kill him properly this time."
Steve was the first to start towards Thanos, Tony followed next. Then Thor and I. I summoned my Asgardian armor and a sword as we walked towards the seated Thanos. He looked up at us as we fanned out around him.
"You could not live with your own failure." Thanos spoke as he looked towards us. "And where did that bring you? Back to me." My hand tightened on my sword, I could end this right here and right now. "I thought by eliminating half of life, the other half would thrive. But you've shown me that's impossible." Thanos would die today and he would just become another boogeyman parents will tell their children about. "And as long as there are those that remember what was, there will always be those that are unable to accept what can be. They will resist."
"Yup, we're all kinds of stubborn." Tony held his ground assessing Thanos's movements.
"I'm thankful. Because now I know what I must do." Thanos rose to his feet and pulled his helmet on as he continued to speak. "I will shred this universe down to its last atom. And then, with the stones you've collected for me, create a new one teeming with life that knows not what it has lost but only what has been given." Thanos pulled his sword from its lodged position in the ground. "A grateful universe."
Scanning the others they prepared to attack Thanos, so I did the same. Now that I wasn't invincible, I'd need better protective armor. I summoned a helmet to my head and had a layer of Asgardian chainmail cover my body, under my armor.
"Born out of blood." Steve looked to Thanos with such hatred, that I'd honestly thought that someone had taken Steve's spot.
"They'll never know it." Thanos answered coldly. "Because you won't be alive to tell them."
Thor was the first to move, sort of. All he did was below a war cry as Tony and Steve moved into action. Tony was the first to try to strike Thanos, to no avail. Then Steve, then me and finally Thor.
Our attacks were futile against him, but it didn't matter as long as we kept the stones away from him. I took a moment to regain a breath as Tony and Thor worked together to coordinate an attack. Tony's suit formed a star like back to it and Thor struck him with lighting. The lighting was quickly converted into a beam of power. Thanos easily blocked the attack with his spinning sword.
