Waking up this morning, I found a text from Damon, informing me he was cashing in that offer I made to help him. He wants me to find Johnathan Gilbert's journal. Not feeling like wasting my time, I let him and Stefan know that Jeremy let Alaric borrow it.

Seeing as it's a school day, and even a few hours after school there will be too many witnesses, they both realized they'd have to wait until tonight to try and get it. Since it's a fairly simple task, Damon told Stefan to handle it.

It's later in the day and the sun has set about an hour ago when I decide to make my way outside only to find Damon on the porch-swing.

"Hello, Elena." He smirks at my unimpressed raised eyebrows. "Is Stefan with you?"

"He'll be here soon." I tell him.

Having gone back inside briefly, I brought out a pack of cards. We've been sat on the floor of the porch playing Uno since then.

"Pick up four, bitch!" I smirk smugly at the vampire as he throws his head back with a defeated groan, making me laugh. "Color is red."

"Speaking of Stefan," he says as he picks his cards up from the deck, "where is he? He's missing Game Night, which I am enjoying immensely."

"I don't know. Haven't heard from him." I shrug, placing down a skip card before laying down a two. "Uno."

"Is it real?" He asks after a moment, laying down a blue two on top.

"I win!" I chirp, laying down a blue six as my final card. "And, is what real?" I ask curiously, gathering up the cards.

"This renewed sense of brotherhood." He says as I shuffle the cards. "Can I trust him?"

Conflicted on what I should answer, I look down at the deck in my hands as I continue to mix them up. I know what it's like to be betrayed by your sibling, one that had once been your best friend growing up until the person they were sleeping with came between you two and created even more problems.
