For What It's Worth

Beca never got along with her dad. They were always butting heads about every little thing, especially school. All Beca wanted to do was produce music, and Dr. Mitchell would never understand that. He valued his daughter's education more than anything, and he wasn't afraid to push that opinion on Beca. This always caused a fight, some bigger than others. This particular fight was one of the big ones.

"Just leave! It's what you're good at!" Beca yelled referencing her parents' divorce. Her dad had left her mom for another woman when Beca was just eight years old.

"Beca, I'm done trying anymore." Her dad said throwing his hands up in defeat. As he began to walk out, Beca threw in one last comment. She always liked getting the last word.

"Fine. Give up on your daughter." Beca said.

With that, Dr. Mitchell's lips pursed and he walked out the door without another word. Beca was thankful he left when he did, because she was getting tired of holding back her tears. She was never one to cry in front of others, not even her parents. The second the door latched behind him, hot tears streamed down Beca's cheeks.

While Beca cried in her solitude, Dr. Mitchell ran into a familiar face in the dorm hall. It was Chloe Beale. Not only was Dr. Mitchell one of Chloe's professors, but he also knew she was Beca's closest friend at Barden. He gave her a quick nod and kept walking. Chloe knew all about Beca and her dad's relationship, so she knew if he was leaving her dorm it probably wasn't good. She eventually reached the younger girl's door and gave a soft knock.

Chloe was the opposite of Dr. Mitchell to Beca. She was comfort and warmth. Her vanilla-scented hair and contagious smile could always pull Beca out of whatever mood she was in. It was safe to say Chloe brought out the best in Beca, and they had been best friends ever since they met. On a couple of drunken nights out, they had even become a little more than best friends. It never went anywhere, despite Beca's obvious crush on the girl.

"What?" Beca said with a sniffle. She tried to hide the fact she was crying from whoever was on the other side of the door.

"It's me." Chloe said pushing the door open. She immediately could tell something was wrong, despite Beca's best efforts to hide it.

"Hey, Chlo." Beca said as she scooted over on the bed. She knew Chloe would be joining her shortly, so she made space.

"I saw your dad..." Chloe said. She walked over to the bed and laid next to Beca, just as expected. They stared at the ceiling for a bit, neither expanding on Chloe's comment. Eventually, Beca broke the silence. She had a few stray tears still falling as she spoke.

"Do you ever feel like you have no control?" Beca asked softly.

"All the time. I mean, look at how Aubrey bosses me around all the time." Chloe said trying to lighten the mood.

"My dad makes all of the decisions. I know he has the right to control some things, but it's like he doesn't even hear what I say."

Chloe propped herself up on her side to look at Beca. She wiped the few tears left on Beca's cheek with her thumb.

"Why can't I just make him proud?" Beca asked once again.

"Hey, you make me proud. That's something. I know I'm not your parent or anything, but I think you do a lot of really cool things. For what it's worth, I think you're really talented Becs." Chloe said while still looking at Beca. The brunette turned her head to face Chloe's, and their blue eyes locked for a moment.

Beca opened her mouth to respond, but nothing came out. The one girl she ever truly trusted had told her all she had ever wanted to hear. All her life she just wanted to know her music was worth something. That she was worth something. All it took for her to finally believe it was Chloe Beale.

"I'm sorry. That was a lot, wasn't it? Sorry." Chloe rambled. That made Beca smirk a little bit. She loved catching Chloe at these "embarrassing" moments. She thought they were cute more than anything.

"It was perfect, Chlo. You always say the perfect thing." Beca said without losing eye contact. The redhead's bright blue eyes were captivating. She could look into them forever.

Before she could get any more lost in Chloe's eyes, she was distracted by a soft hand brushing her cheek. Chloe's thumb grazed across her lips, eliciting a soft gasp from Beca. Chloe leaned down from her propped position and met Beca's lips with her own. The kiss was electric, and anything Beca was feeling before washed away. All she was focused on were Chloe's soft lips melting into hers. Chloe's hands slid up Beca's back and held her small body against her own. Chloe felt the younger girl relax in her arms and she pulled out of their kiss. Beca was practically asleep in the comfort of Chloe's arms after the kiss ended. She snuggled under Chloe's shoulder and let her head fall on the older girl's chest. The redhead brushed a lock of Beca's hair behind her ear and whispered the four words Beca yearned to hear.

"I love you, Beca." She whispered, confident the other girl was fast asleep. She wasn't fully asleep just yet though, but she decided to not ruin Chloe's moment. Instead, she wiggled in closer to Chloe and let herself drift off to sleep. They could talk about those words in the morning.
