It Still Hurt

Beca and Chloe were the perfect example of love at first sight. It was just 2 days after Chloe handed the freshman a flyer that they went on their first date. That first date turned into a million afterward, and all of the Bellas would agree that they were made for each other. The problem with always being reassured by others that your relationship is perfect, is that you start to second guess it. Beca often wondered if she only put Chloe on such a pedestal because everyone was constantly saying how precious their love was. Of course Beca truly did love Chloe, but she would ignore any negative parts of their relationship. It wasn't just Beca though, Chloe was guilty of this too. When something in their relationship was bothering her, she was scared to bring it up because she didn't want to disappoint her supportive friends. It became slightly toxic, and once it was finally brought to the surface, they broke up. That was just a couple weeks ago, and they had been dating for 4 years before that. Despite the breakup being mutual, it was still a little messy. Dating someone for that long is never an easy thing to end, and Beca and Chloe can vouch for that.

Tonight, the Bellas were all at a party. Beca and Chloe normally would be attached at the hip at these things, but ever since the breakup they've been a lot more distant. Chloe was off dancing with Amy in the crowd, while Beca stuck to the sides by herself. Chloe was always the person to force her into socializing at parties. She went to grab another beer when a blonde girl she didn't recognize approached her.

"The cooler is empty." The girl said as Beca reached to open it.

"Oh." Beca said defeated.

"I know where they keep the supply. C'mon, I'll show you." The blonde said.

Beca, wanting her beer, followed the girl.

"I'm Alex by the way." She said.

"Beca." She replied.

"I'm surprised I've never seen you before." Alex said.

"I don't go out super often." Beca explained.

It was true. Her and Chloe loved their nights in, so parties weren't a super frequent thing for them. But if Beca was at a party, she was usually just off to the side talking to Chloe anyways.

"You'd be hard to miss." Alex said.

After not being in the dating game for so long, it took Beca a bit to realize Alex was flirting. They had finally reached a storage closet off the living room where the rest of the alcohol was being kept.

"Grab whatever you'd like. I know the guys who are throwing this, so they won't mind." Alex said while holding the door for Beca.

The brunette walked in and grabbed another of whatever beer she had been drinking. As she was walking out, Alex grabbed her hand. She was taller than Beca, and her eyes were focused downward intensely. For a second, Beca felt uncomfortable. Then she remembered her and Chloe were done, and she wanted to forget the pain of that. She grabbed Alex's waist and their lips crashed together. All of Beca's typical social anxiety washed away, and she was making out with Alex in the doorway.

"Beca?" A soft voice asked mid-make out.

Beca recognized that voice all too well. It was Chloe. She immediately dropped her hands from Alex's waist and practically jumped away from her. It felt like she had been caught cheating, but then she remembered they were done. Beca had every right to move on, so why did Chloe sound so offended? Beca's reaction quickly turned from guilty to annoyed. She turned back to Alex, giving her a "let me handle this" look. Alex decided it was best not to get caught in the middle of whatever this was, so she walked away.

"Beca how could you?" Chloe asked on the brink of tears.

"It's not cheating if we were broken up, Chlo." Beca responded shortly.
