(In which Donnie does an experiment and it leaves him badly hurt, but Raph is the only one home at the time. . .)
(Song lyrics from Reckless Battery Burns by GHOST)

"Sheer thrills and frivolities. . ."♦

Donatello sat at his workbench, painting intricate details onto the machine atop the desk. He held his breath while doing so, focusing solely on painting it right.

He had to get this right. . .

The genius lifted his brush, exhaling sharply and wiping his forehead with the back of his hand. It was quite a tedious process, painting it. And an even more difficult process just putting it together. He had to get everything perfect, from the simple paint job all the way down to each 1 and 0 of code he carefully typed. (and totally didn't look over 23 times for this project alone)
He rolled back a bit after placing his brush onto the tray beside the machine, leaning back and staring at the ceiling.

Now to test. . .

He took a breath, sitting up again before jumping at a sudden voice speaking through the intercom on his wrist band. He grimaced, recognizing it as his self proclaimed twin. Great. . .

"Eyyy, Hermanos. Just checkin' in, you all alright? Not killing each other are you?" The slider joked, snickering coming from the other line to which Donatello assumed to be Mikey. The youngest always did laugh at the blue-clad's jokes. It always baffled the scientist as to why anyone thought those were ever seen as amusing. He decided not to dwell on the matter, though, and answered with a slight annoyance to his tone. "No, but I'm going to kill you if you do not leave me be 'Nardo."
"Harsh, man. I was just checkin' in!" The slider quipped, a light scoff emitting from the intercom.
"Yes, well, you could have privately checked in. I did install that command for a reason, y'know." The scientist retorted.
"Ohhh, right yeah that exists."
"Scoff." The genius shook his head at his brother's ignorance. "Dum-dum." He muttered.
"Hey! I heard that!"
"Good!" He snapped, muting the cuff and huffing.

Brothers.

♦"Erratum discussions held under my control. . ."♦

The genius looked back at the desk, sighing and rolling back over. He picked it up, moving it over to the testing table and setting it down. Better to be safe than sorry. . .

If only he'd known that fact. . .

He silently prayed to the pizza-supreme in the sky and hesitantly turned it on. He stepped back a pace or two, watching the machine started up. He slowly let his guard down, noticing the machine wasn't doing much that made it seem like something was wrong. He smiled.  Aha! By Darwin's beard it worked! Shell yeah baby! He silently cheered, pumping his fist and beginning to step forward.

He cheered far too soon. . .

He paused as the machine began shaking, making a worrisome hissing noise as smoke began to exit the machine. He went to turn it off quickly, hoping that perhaps he could ensure it didn't—

*BOOM!!*

The genius flew back, slamming carapace-first into the titanium reinforced wall with a yelp. He crumpled to the floor, body going limp as his vision began blurring. His ears began ringing, and his body felt hot. As if he had just been thrown into a fire place or laid on hot concrete during the summer. He began to see black spots in his vision, and was thoroughly confused.
What. . What happened. . ?
Suddenly someone burst into the lab, a distant gasp being heard as he began hearing footsteps coming closer. They were too heavy to be Mikey's or Leo's. . Far too heavy to be Splinters. . . Definitely not April's— Perhaps—

Raph.

The snapper ran over, falling to his knees and gently maneuvering his hands underneath the younger's shell. He pulled back as he heard a soft whimper emit from the genius, concern—and fear—only growing. "Donnie- Donnie what happened—?"
He only received a small murmur in response, the scientist's fingers barely twitching before going limp again.
"Oh, Donnie. . Alright— Lemme- Lemme call the others, 'kay?" He lifted his wrist cuff, speaking through it in attempts at contacting the others.

Donnie only heard the muffled voice of Raph, barely making out his blurry, fuzzy figure. The spotting of his vision didn't help either. He let out a small whimper of pain as the older attempted to pick him up, his shell hurting bad. He heard the snapper say something, and only replied to the unknown question(?) With a small murmur. Not even he knew what he said, and by the sound—or rather silence—of it, neither did the red-clad brother. He attempted to lift his hand, yet only made it as far as twitching his fingers before going limp once again. He began hearing a small conversation, perhaps from the intercom. Suddenly, his entire body tensed, before his vision went black, falling completely limp and motionless.

"Donnie! Guys hurry it up!" The snapper frantically exclaimed, before promptly stopping the conversation and picking up his—hopefully unconscious—brother. He dashed to the med-bay, careful not to jostle the younger too much.
