"No?" She questioned confused
"He is not a monster mother, he has treated me with the upmost respect" I said, standing up to her
Literally and figuratively

"He is a demon Kore! He is only doing all of this so you become like all the others, the stupid naive wife that he comes home to, after all the other women, after all the death and his torture!" She shouted, nearing me, domineering over me.

I almost shrunk back into my self as usual
But I did not
I was worthy. That is what Hades told me
I was not stupid
Nor naive
I was logical. And Hades respected my wishes
Unlike her.

"If we go home, if I come home-"
"When you come home" she corrected
"Will you let me continue to see him? If that is what I wish to do?" I asked
"Of course not, he is a maniac Kore, he has entrapped you!" She said angrily.

"He sees me mother" I tried to explain
"He has been kind to me in ways no one else has. Remember those other men? The ones who brought you offerings and asked for my hand? None of them saw me, none of them cared for me. Hades cares. Hades sees me deep down. The parts of me I did not know were there" I said.

"And what parts are they?" She scoffed
"Confidence, the ability to do the impossible" I said, gesturing back to the plant
"He thinks I am beautiful, inside and out and he... he believes in me mother" I said.

She sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose
"After today, you will never have to see him again, and we can rid your head of all this nonsense" she said. Had she even listened?
"It is not nonsense" I said defiantly

"Yes! It is! You are young and stupid, you think this is love? That he would give you a good life? You are the goddess of spring Kore, you were not made for death!" She shouted, grabbing my wrist
I pulled away, staring her down
Maybe I was.
Maybe I was made to bring a little life to death

And he was made for me
To invoke the confidence and self worth into me that I had lacked all my life

"Leave" I said
"Excuse me?" She asked
"Leave" I said again. Trying to hold my ground
"Who are you?" She said, looking at me with disbelief in her eyes

"My girl never spoke to her mother like this" she said
"Your girl... never had the nerve to" I said, my resolve breaking
"Your girl never left the house, never went anywhere, your girl... never had friends, or a life, I never made my own decisions, or wore what I wanted to, you never let me make my own decision about these suitors that turned up, you never let me decide anything!" I said, every built up emotion burst from my mouth, every tear sprung to my eyes and I regretted them all immediately.
