I wondered what love was like to experience
To feel it truly deep in my heart and have the shiver or new experiences ripple through me
To feel hands on my waist
A man's lips against mine
Someone who loved me so much I would never need or want for any other affection ever again.

"Kore, are you listening to me?" Mother snapped
"Sorry, what?" I asked, coming back into reality, continuing to pick apart the grapes from their stems

She sighed in frustration
"I said... Hermes is coming round today for lunch, he is a nice boy, I think he will be a good influence for you" she said
Hermes... the messenger?
"For... lunch?" I asked perplexed

"Yes, and no, not in a romantic way, I merely intend for you to become companions, not lovers, so if he does anything inappropriate, you tell me at once" she said

I nodded
I was surprised she was letting me in the company of any man at all
After Apollo's efforts all week, she had been adamant that I die a spinster

"Another personal day sir?" Charon asked as I boarded the boat
"Uh, yes" I said simply
I did not wish to tell anyone where I was going everyday
That I was abandoning my duties to watch a goddess as she frolicked around in the meadows.

"He is here dear, sit down" she said, pushing me down onto the bench and moving into the house to answer the door
I looked around the garden, I had to admit to myself I was quite... nervous.

I had never had a... male friend.

"Kore, this is Hermes, I am so glad you could make it" mother smiled at him
He smiled back, his hair a mess atop his head, wings sprouting from his back
Wings...
He... flies?

"Of course Demeter, who could possibly refuse an invitation from you?" he said kindly, gaze shifting to me
He had an... endearing smile. The kind that made a mother feel safe to leave him with their daughter
"I will let you two talk while I finish lunch, please, sit down" she smiled, before walking inside.

I was still trying to figure out what her motive for this was
"Persephone, the goddess everyone is talking about" he smiled, sitting beside me
"Why is that?" I asked curiously
He shrugged, putting his feet up nonchalantly on a bed of flowers
Which only in turn made me frown.
