Such a funny little thing... a flower
Something so small and delicate and... and so full of life and wonder
Something that brings so much joy and yet comforts the humans in their grief as well.

They amaze me. The way they grow and wilt and reappear again.
Petals flourishing out and becoming... beautiful
"Kore!"
I darted up, craning my neck to see my mother over all the flowers that surrounded me as I lay amongst the tulips.

"Yes mother?" I asked
And I'm not sure why I asked, for I could see her expression
The way her hands sat comfortably on her hips. Comfortable because they had been there so many times before, accompanied with that look.

That look that told me I should have been inside a long time ago
"You are late young lady, now come inside" she demanded
Suggestion was never an option with mother, she knew what she wanted. And I did it.

To avoid further harassment or limitation from the outside world altogether
It was bad enough living amongst the humans and not being able to interact with them
While observing all their mannerisms, their peace, their war... their love.

But if she stopped me from experiencing the nature, I do not think I would have much to live for
I thrived amongst the flowers, they just felt right to me. Like I belonged there.

I stood up, trailing slowly back to the cottage so I could bask in the last few rays of sun before night fell.

"And you must stay by my side at all times" she insisted, brushing my hair behind me
"Yes mother, I know" I said simply, craving for something... pretty in my hair
Opposed to the formal plait my mother had woven, tying with a cream ribbon.

"Do not talk back on this, this is important" she said, straightening my shoulders as she gained eye contact through the mirror in front of me
"This will be the most important day of your life Kore" she said.

I know she was right. Today was the most important day, today I find out what my purpose is.
What my duty as a goddess will be.

But as much as I anticipated my new purpose, a part of me was nervously excited for the experience itself
To see mount Olympus, to meet other Gods and Goddess' similar to us.

"Get yourself dressed and meet me downstairs" she said, swiftly leaving the room
I sighed to myself, looking at the dress that waited for me
Is this what my life was to be?

Staying with my mother and carrying out a duty here on earth?
The humans' world was fascinating to me, but I had lived among them my entire life
I have witnessed the joy and the heartache, the sorrow, suffering and tragedies.
