"Why are you here?" I asked
"I..."
"I asked you a question" I snapped, getting angrier at the mere sight of her presence
Who is she?
Is she a nymph like Minthe? Prying to get to my husband

No... no I see it in her face
She is mortal. So how did she get here?
"I told you. I am Psyche, I..." she said nervously
I sat down on the bed, feeling sick as I looked at her
Why do I feel so ill so suddenly?

"Sit" I said strongly, she did so, on the chair to my dresser
"And tell me why you are here" I said
She thought for a moment, before seemingly breaking down as she looked away ashamed of herself

"My husband... Eros" she muttered
Eros?
"Aphrodite's son?" I asked surprised
She nodded

"I love him. Please believe me, I do. I... I hurt him. I never meant to. All I want is forgiveness, all I want is to be with him, but she... she has put me through impossible tasks and I... I cannot take much more" she began to cry

I did not know Eros had married
Nor that Aphrodite did not approve of it
"How did you hurt him?" I asked

"I just wanted to see his face. I... I burnt him... it was a terrible accident, if I could only explain that to him, I know he- I hope he will understand. But Aphrodite will not let me near him. Not unless I complete the tasks she set" she explained sadly

"What tasks?" I asked
"She made me sort grain first, painstaking sorting and your mother... she pitied me, she helped me" she said
My mother pitied her? Her.

She could not spare me the time because she hated my husband so much, yet she helped this mortal woman to be with a god?
"Then she challenged me to collect wool, Potami, a river god, he helped me. And then I had to collect water from the river Styx... Zeus helped me" she explained

So many gods had helped her in her mission
And I wondered if they believed in her love for her husband. Or whether they were moved by their own hatred of Aphrodite

"And now?" I asked
"Now... she has sent me to take your beauty cream. She told me you keep it here and that if I can bring it back then... then she will let me reunite with Eros" she said hopefully
"I am so sorry" she said honestly
