"Kore! Wake up" mother shouted throughout the house, wakening me I sat up with a yawn, mother always liked to start the day early
I prepared myself My first day... as the goddess of spring I was happy I had received a gift that tied into plants.
There was a saying amongst the humans To do what you love And I was confident that I was going to be very content in my new role
I trailed down the stairs, but my steps faltered as I heard a voice A voice that was not my mothers A... male voice "I am sorry, but you are wasting both of our times here, your efforts are fruitless and will only be met with rejection, she is not interested so please leave" mother said.
"Oh come on Demeter, Persephone is a proper goddess now, suitors will be lining up around the corner" the man said "Exactly, so what would make you so special?" She asked.
"Mother?" I asked hesitantly, showing myself in the kitchen "Kore" she said, looking to the man again, before sighing "It is a pleasure to meet you Persephone" the man said, holding out a bouquet of roses to me.
The man was quite handsome. He had an air around him that suggested... confidence? He seemed so sure of his actions, and his smile... "Oh, thank you" I said, taking them I looked to mother, confused as to what was happening, or what I was supposed to say.
"I am Apollo" he smiled, holding his hand out, bare of anything now I placed mine in his, offering a small smile back But he leant down, kissing the back of my hand
"That is enough, Kore, tend to the garden, I will be out in a moment" mother said "Now now Demeter, you would not deprive your daughter of making new friends would you?" He asked
"When they are friends like you, then yes" she said, marching towards the front door and holding it open, looking at him expectingly He sighed, but reluctantly moved to leave "I will see you again soon Persephone, it would be lovely to get to know you more" he smiled, before leaving.
Mother shut the door with force "It has started already" she said, rolling her eyes "What has?" I asked, as she snatched the flowers from my grasp "Suitors, men wanting me to marry you off the moment you receive your title, the moment they have all laid eyes on you and run rampant into childishness" she said, throwing them into the waste.
