She was something I had never seen in all my years
Something so... pure
So untainted and yet so aware of the problems that surrounded her
Of the darkness that would snatch her away if she gave it the chance.

She looked other worldly
Sitting across from me as she stared in utter awe at everything she saw as we trailed down the river.

Charon did not say a word, merely steered and glanced between us periodically.

"What is it you want to show me?" She asked, standing up when we had come to a stop
I led her over to the grand gates, where the beast I left at those very gates stood guard
My Cerberus
The great beast that did not let those in who should not be here

He had not noticed us yet, but Persephone had noticed him
And her steps faltered, my attempt to guide her failing as her arms went slack beside her
She stared up at him, craning her neck more than when she looks up at me
An audible gasp escaping her petal lips

"He is usually harmless" I tried to comfort her
An action I was not used to
I did not comfort, I invoked fear. I did not give mercy, I took weakness.

But the fear in her eyes, the hesitancy she had as she stepped back, struck my heart
I did not want her to be afraid
"Cerberus" I said loudly, gaining his attention, he looked down at me, recognition falling into those eyes as he leant down to greet me

His gaze landed on my beauty
And he snarled at her, usually if I came to see him I would be bringing a prisoner
A victim for him to reprimand
Or someone to exile from here
"No" I said simply, taking her hand in mine
She shook slightly, nerves rippling through her small figure as I brought her hand up to rest on one of his noses

The middle nose. The present.

He stopped snarling, and eventually lied down before her
I retracted my hand, and she stood there
A small woman, the one who would have flowers in her hair and innocence in her heart, and she had settled the beast that guards the very gates to hell.

"He is... big" she mumbled, her eyes trailing over him at a rapid pace, trying to take in all of him.

"Yes he... he needs to be I suppose" I said
"And he... he likes me?" She questioned, finally looking at me
And I revelled in it
Her eyes
Her attention. I craved it.

"Well he would have eaten you by now so... yes" I said, trying to make her feel confident with him
She nodded to herself.

Before she slowly took her hand back.

"It is very interesting down here" she said
"That is one way to word it" I said.

I had shown her depravity
Souls aching for peace and love
And she looked at them all. She looked at people with sympathy
A sympathy unknown to me.
