"Oh come on!" I shouted in frustration.
Why would it not work?
I was the goddess made to grow plants
Gifted to me to be able to do the impossible
Like grow something in the underworld
Bring life in a land of death.

I sat back down, concentrating as hard as I could on the seed beneath the soil
Focusing all my energy and thoughts onto it
Onto the thought of life
Of growth

Of... Hades
Hades proposing that I stay, with him
Offering his heart and trusting me to keep it.
To rule with him.
He had faith in me and believed in me
Believed that I could be more than I was
More than just a girl
A girl who answered to her mother and asked for permission.

He saw a queen in me. Someone confident and worthy.
Someone who can do it
And as those thoughts ran through my mind, a small stalk rose from the soil, rising slowly up to my palm and stopping
Small. So small and yet. It happened
I did it.

I... I grew something.

"I did it!" I said to myself, standing up.

I stalked off the boat, leaving Charon a coin and walking towards the gates
"Cerberus" I shouted simply, watching him yield down onto his front, ceasing his barking and snarling at Demeter
Who stood silent. Still.
A deadly glare sent my way as I neared her.

"Demeter" I greeted coldly
"Where is she?" She asked
"Why are you here?" I asked instead, feigning politeness
"Bring my daughter here. Now" she said bitterly

"Or what?" I asked, choosing not to feign ignorance
"What?" She asked, looking at me in disgust
She thought I would back down easily?
"What will you do Demeter? Kill a harvest?" I asked, her jaw tightened, eyes sharpening.

"Give me my daughter, she does not belong with you, you had no right!" She shouted
Causing Cerberus to raise a head to her, snarling
I raised a hand, silencing him
"Your daughter. Has a name. She is not yours Demeter, she is a woman" I said
"She is a girl! She is naive to the ways of the gods" she said
"Because you kept her that way" I said.

"Why are you here?" I asked again, she said nothing
"Did Zeus turn you away?" I asked, almost smiling at the thought
But I refused to in front of her
"That is why is it not? Zeus refused to storm in here and snatch her back for you? She is with me Demeter, at this point, I am not sure it is unwillingly anymore" I said honestly

She liked being here
She was becoming more confident and sure of herself. Something I knew would fall rapidly backwards if she were to go back to this... woman.
