Vol. 5 Ch. 30 Past Stories And Old Friends

3rd Person POV

Back in Mistral, Qrow was leaning against a stone railing as he said to himself, "This isn't right. I get one or two of them, but... all of them?" Qrow sighed and hung his head in disappointment. Suddenly, he heard the sound of Raven's portal behind him. He turned towards it and said, "Raven?" The sound of a motorcycle was heard coming from the portal. Surprised, Qrow said, "Oh." As Bumblebee exited the portal with ED-E and Y/N following behind, Yang said, "Hey, Qrow." He smiled and said, "It's great to see you, firecracker." She smiled and said, "Likewise." He turned to Y/N and said, "I see that you're still up and kicking." Y/N smiled and said, "Well, I didn't survive 60 years in cryogenic stasis for nothing." Qrow chuckled, but cut himself short at the sight of Ranger Sequoia.

Your POV

Finally having enough of it, I spoke up and said, "Okay, what is it?" Weiss, Yang, and Qrow looked at me as Qrow said, "Huh?" I replied and said, "Ever since we arrived in the Branwen Tribe Camp, I've noticed that a few of the bandits, including Raven, have been staring at my revolver in a manner that I can only recognize as shock and recognition. Just now, you gave it the same look. So what is it?!" Qrow sighed and said, "Y/N, I guess there's no sense in not telling you. But before I do, let me ask you this. Where exactly did you get that revolver?" Still a bit frustrated, I replied, "It was my father's revolver, before that it belonged to my grandfather." Qrow pinched the bridge of his nose and said, "I see. Well, the reason I recognized it is the same reason the other members of the tribe did."

Growing a bit impatient, I said, "And that reason is?" Qrow sighed and said, "Because it's from one of the stories we were told as children. Now me personally, I've not been one to agree with the tribe's ways of doing raids and killing people. But there was a story about the tribe being able to kill a messenger between the Kingdoms of Vale and Vacuo. However Raven and I's father never mentioned that the messenger had any kids. If you're saying that your revolver once belonged to your grandfather, I can only assume that your grandfather was the messenger in that story. For that, I'm truly sorry." After hearing him say that, I was in shock. I thought back to what my mom had told me about our family's past and realized that it lined up perfectly with what Qrow just said. I was snapped out of my thoughts as I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned to see that it was Yang's as she looked at me concerned. I took a deep breath and said, "I don't blame you, Qrow. You weren't the ones who killed him. It was the people in your tribe before you." Qrow let out a sigh and said, "Thanks, kid. To be honest, knowing that you're the Courier's Grandson makes me feel a bit better, knowing that your grandfather's legacy lives on." I smiled and said, "Thanks for telling me, Qrow."

3rd Person POV

Back at the house Team RNJR was staying at, each of the members were helping prepare dinner: Ruby and Ren were cooking at the stove, Jaune was setting up the table, and Nora is cutting carrots, occasionally eating slices. Ren spoke up and said, "Alright, the first batch is just about done." Ruby replied and said, "Awesome! Now we just need Qrow and we'll be all set." Still eating carrots, Nora said, "Do you really think he's gonna bring that many people? This is a lot of food." As Nora eats another carrot slice, Ruby replied, "Uh, I don't know, but it sounds like we could use all the help we can get." From the other room, Qrow could be heard as he said, "I'm back!" Ruby replied and said, "Be right there!" Ren looked at Ruby and said, "You're going to overcook that." Ruby retorted amd said, "No I'm not, shut up!" Qrow called from the other room once more and said, "Hey, uh, Ruby?" "I'm coming!" Ruby called out in reply. Then some smoke started coming from the pan Ruby was cooking with. She groaned and said to Ren, "Fine! You take over."

Ruby grabs the tea tray and heads to the living room while Ren continues to cook. Ruby looked at the tea tray and said, "So, we didn't know how many people were coming, so we just cooked all of it." She looked up, and gasped as she dropped the tea tray and its contents, which shatter on the floor. She stared in disbelief at the sight of not only Qrow, but of her older sister Yang, Yang's boyfriend Y/N, Y/N's eyebot ED-E, and her teammate Weiss. Yang approached her little sister. Ruby said, with her voice cracking, "Yang, I... I'm so sorry! I-I should've stayed, and I should've talked to you more! I'd─I just..." Tears started pouring from her eyes as Ruby said, "I wasn't sure if you wanted me around and─" Suddenly, her big sister gave her a strong hug. Ruby's lips quivered, and she looked toward her sister. Yang said, "I love you." Then tears streamed from her eyes as well. Ruby sobbed as she leaned into her sister's hug and said, "I love you too."

Jaune, Ren and Nora entered the room, smiling at the sight of the two sisters embracing each other. Qrow smiled as well. Oscar Pine entered the room and said, "Uh..." He looked up, seeing Ruby and Yang hugging, and smiled. Weiss smiled as she wiped a tear from her eye, before frowning while looking down. Then Ruby said, "Weiss." Weiss looked up, and saw the two sisters open their arms up for her. She smiled and eagerly joined them in their hug. Everyone smiled as they watched three of the four Team RWBY members embraced. ED-E let out a bleep, to which Y/N replied, "Shut up, I'll just ruin their moment if I did that." Everyone chuckled and Yang said, "Alright, come here, Blue!" He smiled and he joined them in the hug as ED-E let out a cheerful whirl of happiness."

Your POV

As dinner continued, Weiss told us her story about how she accidentally summoned a Boarbatusk during the Schnee charity ball. Ruby gasped and said, "You did not!" Weiss had her face in her hands and replied, "Yeah, right in the middle of the party." Yang said, "Please tell me you let that lady have it." Weiss replied, "Of course not! Even if I did really want to." Nora crossed her arms, skeptical, and said, "No way, I don't believe it." Weiss then summoned a Boarbatusk right next to Nora. The Grimm summon growled, causing Nora to yelp and fall out of her chair. Weiss, Yang, Jaune, Ren, and I all laughed.

As dinner nearly finishes, Yang showed off her robotic prosthetic arm to the rest of the us. All of us reacted in awe as Yang said, "It's not a replacement for the real thing, but I'll make sure to make good use of it." Jaune replied, "That's amazing." "Incredible," Ren added. I nodded as Ruby got all starry-eyed and quickly zoomed over to her sister's side to admire her arm. She held Yang's arm up and asked, "And it's just as strong?" Yang replied, "Hm, sure is." Suddenly, I heard a bang on the table. Nora had her arm out ready to arm wrestle and she said, "Wanna bet?" Weiss said, "Nora, please, now's not the time..." Despite Weiss' protest, Yang and Nora arm wrestled. Jaune and Ren cheered on Nora while Ruby and I cheered on for my girlfriend.
