Third person point of view:

The rain is heavy. Muted grays mingled with the cool blues of twilight while people flood the streets of New York City with umbrellas sheltering them. Luke Easton Gambit being one of them.

He has his headphones practically glued to his ears as his favourite rock song makes everything around go quiet. Luke's black electric guitar is strapped onto his back and he's positive it's already damaged as he stares at the busy street trying his hardest to flag a taxi.

"Fucking hell," a frustrated sigh leaves his mouth as another empty taxi drives past him. He continues his walk on the busy sidewalk in hopes that this rain will come to an end. He eventually come to a corner where a girl who is also trying to flag a taxi stands. Her entire body is wet as she holds onto her arms shivering. "Taxi!" She shouts, oblivious on how to actually call a taxi. It's not like he was an expert himself.

Luke stood beside her, whistling but the taxi just drives by them. He looks at the girl, her eyeliner slowly running down her cheeks as she continues to shake. He does the only logical thing, he hands her his black umbrella. "Here." He didn't raise his voice, he never raised his voice, but she is still able to hear him loud and clear over the rain.

She looked at Luke for a minute, unsure if she should take it but she does. Her hand reaches for the umbrella and she holds it above her head. "Thank you," she says, but he doesn't even notice because something else catches his attention. Her smile.

Her smile is what attracts him first. It's so perfect yet so slanted it's almost as if she's smirking. Her teeth are pearly white and perfectly straight, but then it's her eyes.

Her big and bold green eyes. Eyes he's never witnessed before. Such a beautiful shade green. A shade of green that it almost looks unreal.

So beautiful is all he can think of. Such a beautiful girl. "Sir, are you okay?" She asks him. He notices that he's been staring for too long but he quickly shakes it off with a nod.

She smiles again and his heart skips a beat. She does a little shift, moving her arm up so the umbrella covers him too. Luke's heart begins to feel like it's glowing, a small smile covering his face. Not once has he felt like this in the past 19 years old his life. Not a single time, but she makes him feel that and he doesn't even know her name.

His gaze shifts from her to the taxi coming towards them. Luke whistles loudly and the taxi stops. He opens the door, allowing the girl in. He watches as she closes the umbrella and goes to hand it to him. "No, keep it." Luke smiles as he shuts the door.

"Thank you," her smile goes from ear to ear before the taxi drives off leaving him with a happiness that feels like it will never die.

Unfortunately it did. When Luke managed to get a taxi and get back home he walked into an apartment filled with the scent of petrichor.

Luke freezes as he catches sight of a wet umbrella closed and dripping onto the hardwood floor. It is his umbrella. The one he had given to the mystery girl.

His gaze moved from the umbrella to the mystery girl sitting on his couch, smiling at his roommate. The same smile she gave him. Luke notices that her hair and clothes are now dry.

Luke's glowing heart burns out.
