John Murphy felt safe.
Honestly, how could he not? He was safe inside the Second Dawn Bunker that would shelter him from the radiation bound to destroy the planet in a few days. There was plenty of room for everyone inside, meaning Emori would also have a place, which meant that Jo and her baby would each have a place — that was all Murphy could ask for. He was surviving, and so was his family.
Though he may not want to admit it out loud, Murphy was content with his current life situation in all aspects. He had Jo and Emori, the latter having utterly turned his world upside in all the best ways possible. Never did Murphy think he could care about someone more than Jo, but here he was, his love for Emori tipping over that invisible line. Now Murphy understood Jo and Bellamy — now that he's experienced love for himself, he could genuinely grasp what his sister and the eldest Blake meant to each other. Murphy was grateful that his sister could experience something of that caliber, and he was also grateful that he could experience it himself.
Another thing that seemed so out of the ordinary in his life was that Jo, his baby sister — only by four minutes — was pregnant. She was going to have a baby. He was going to become an uncle. That fact had excited Murphy more than he initially thought when Jo had first told him in Polis all those months ago. It was hard to grasp a miracle like that was possible in a world filled with nothing but pain and despair. And he was glad his sister was in the middle of that miracle — well until the baby comes, at least because Murphy knows they'll be the center of attention. But he'll be there for his sister, taking care of Jo, like he's done for the vast majority of his life.
And while he agreed with Clarke and Jaha's decision to take the Second Dawn Bunker unjustly — the very decision made him feel safe in the first place — others did not. Murphy couldn't see anything wrong with the decision — how could it possibly be the wrong decision when he, Emori, and Jo were safe? Skaikru did whatever it took to survive; Murphy understood that logic. That logic was what kept him alive for so long.
One person in particular who did not like what had occurred was Bellamy Blake, and Murphy could sympathize with Bellamy because he knew why the eldest Blake didn't care for the decision. Octavia, his sister, was on the wrong side of the door. Murphy knew that if Jo were out there, he would be reacting the same way; it made the two boys more similar than either of them realized.
"They're just gonna keep him locked up for five years?" Murphy questioned Clarke, the two traveling down in an elevator on their way to where Bellamy was currently being 'locked up.'
From what Murphy had gathered through Clarke, Bellamy was hell-bent on going outside to get his sister. The solution was to lock him up in a turbine room on the lowest level of the facility — he wondered if Jo knew about the whole debacle, deciding after a moment that she probably didn't; otherwise, she would be doing something about it. Murphy had to admit he was partially baffled when Clarke told him everything; he understood why, but he still couldn't get over the fact that Clarke was locking Bellamy up. Though, in retrospect, he couldn't really be too surprised given that days ago, she wire-tied him and Emori inside Becca's lab.
The elevator came to a surprisingly gentle stop, and the metal mesh in front of the two rose, creating an opening. "Of course not." Clarke replied, her voice sounding irritated even though she was the one who came to Murphy.
"Clarke, this is his sister we're talking about. I think we both know he's never just gonna let that go." Said Murphy as the two exited the elevator, beginning to make their way down the dimly lit corridor. "I sure as hell wouldn't if Jo was out there."
And Clarke knew that; she knew Bellamy would probably never let this go, and she knew Murphy wouldn't either if he was in Bellamy's place. That was why Clarke told Murphy Jo was safe inside the bunker getting checked out by Abby and not on the soon-to-be radiation-filled ground. She couldn't deal with two loose cannons of brothers.
