"I would appreciate the help tonight, Aether." You shout annoyed, leaning against the practice room door frame. The ghouls and Papa turn to face you, they gasp at your current state. Your hair was in a messy bun, clearly unbrushed, you wore a hoodie that belonged to Aether, you wore gray sweatpants that were a size too small due to your weight loss, and the bags under your eyes were clear. Aether looked over at Papa, he gave Aether a nod. The ghoul quickly placed the guitar down and rushed out of the room, holding your hand, and walking back to your room.
He opens the door for you, you hurriedly walk in and move over to the crying kit's crib. You and Aether were able to summon a newborn kit a month ago, and it has been your personal hell. Aether gets up early to do his chores, then has practice with the band for the upcoming tour, and then hangs out with the ghouls, leaving you alone with your child. You quickly pick up the crying kit, "Shhhh, it's okay baby, it's okay. Mama is here." You bounce your kit lightly, she quickly falls asleep in your arms. You feel two strong hands wrap around your waist and a chin rest on your shoulder, "You are a wonderful parent." Aether whispers, smiling while watching Vrai sleep, "I'm an amazing SINGLE parent." You spit back, slowly lowering your kit back into the crib.
You push Aether away, too angry and exhausted to cuss him out. HE'S the one who wanted a kit so badly. HE'S the one who wanted to summon the kit. You throw off the hoodie, revealing a tank top underneath, Aether gasps, "Y/n, you-you've lost so much weight." He turns you to face him, his hands grazing up and down your arms, "Are you okay?" The days of anger and rage towards your husband fade to tears. You cry, silently, but your tears flood your face.
Aether quickly holds you to his chest, you don't hug back. You only sob into his shirt, wetting the black fabric, "Y/n, I'm so, so sorry that I've been absent." He kisses the top of your head and squeezes you closer to him, "If it was this bad you should have told me. I didn't know that you were suffering so much, babe." The truth and admittance in his voice makes your tired brain fold into his comfort. You wrap your arms around his waist, holding him closer. After a few more minutes of sobbing, Vrai starts to cry again. You move to help your daughter, but Aether stops you, "Lay down, love. I can handle it." He steps away, you lay down on the bed.
Aether quickly leans over the crib, "Hi, darling, what's wrong?" He asks in a whisper, gently picking up Vrai. She still cries as he tries to shush and rock her, "Baby, it's okay, daddy's here." You sit up in the bed and rub your eyes, "She's hungry." You yawn.
Aether turns to you with an apologetic smile. He feels like a failure, he wanted this kit more than anything and he wasn't here for his partner nor his daughter. Aether quickly moves over to the bottle warmer and picks up one of the bottles, thankful that you already had bottles made, "Here you go, little one." He coos, gently lowering the bottle, Vrai doesn't take it, she continues to sob, "Are you not hungry?" He asks confused, "You don't know how to feed her do you?" You ask from the bed, now sitting against the headboard, slightly annoyed at how your husband doesn't know anything, "I-I thought I did." He admits, moving towards the bed, bottle and Vrai in hand.
You tap the bed beside you, letting him know to sit down. Aether quickly shifts to sit beside you.
You take the bottle from him, he holds Vrai with one arm, the other wrapping around your shoulders, "Because she's so young, you have to just be patient, she'll realize what the bottle is, it just takes her a second." You explain, shifting your body to lay on your side, your head resting on his shoulder, "Vrai, here baby." You whisper, lowering the bottle to her lips, "There you go, baby, it's just milk." You coo, she gently starts to drink the bottle, her sobs stop. Aether watches you with a loving glint in his eyes, "Y/n, you are amazing." He whispers, placing a gentle kiss on the top of your head. You laugh and cuddle into him, "Thank you for all you do." He continues, kissing the top of your head again.
You laugh as Vrai sucks at the bottle, she finishes it quickly, "Stay here, I'll get a burp towel." You say climbing out of the bed with the empty bottle. You walk over to the bottle warmer, placing the empty bottle beside the machine. You then pick up a towel with little, yellow rubber ducks on it. You then move over to Aether, tossing the towel over your shoulder, "Here." You say holding your arms out. Aether shakes his head, "No. Show me how to do it, show me so I can help you."
He sits beside you on the edge of the bed. You smile softly, "Okay, put this here." You say placing the towel over his left shoulder, "Hold her against your chest, let her head rest on the towel." You instruct helping him shift Vrai's position, "Okay, gently, but firmly tap her back." Aether raises an eyebrow in confusion, "Okay, so you cup your hand like you're drinking water out of a stream." You hold your hand out in the position. He moves to hold your kit with one hand, his right hand copies the form of yours, "Good, that's perfect. Now, you have to tap her back with enough strength to break up the gas and air bubbles in her stomach, but not too hard, like this." You hit his leg as if it was Vrai's back. Aether takes a deep breath, clearly nervous, "You will not hurt her, Aeth." You comfort, he looks at you with big eyes, "You've got this, dad." You continue, he sighs, but starts to burp Vrai. She spits up a little onto the towel, but after a couple of minutes you say, "That's enough, she's fine now."
Aether gently rubs his daughter's back, "I'll put her down, she's already sleeping." He says with a smile. He slowly gets out of bed and places Vrai into the crib, "Goodnight little one." He says and gently kisses her forehead. You stand from the bed, slowly moving behind him, watching as his eyes and face soften while looking at your kit. You watch with a smile, finally happy to have Aether here to help. He turns to face you. You throw your arms around his neck, "Y/n, go sleep. I can handle it." He whispers into your ear, his arms wrapping around your waist, pulling you closer to his body, "You're clueless, admit it." You whisper back, kissing him affectionately after. He laughs into the kiss, you do too, "Now come on, I want cuddles." He complains, pulling you to the bed like a big toddler.
You let him pull you into the bed, he immediately makes you lay on his chest, "I love you, so, so much. I'm telling Papa that I can't go to rehearsal until our daughter grows." You lifted your head to look at his eyes, he was telling the truth, "But, Aether the tour, that's more important tha-" "Nothing, is more important than you and Vrai. Nothing in this world is more important than our family, Y/n." He reassures you. You start to tear up, "Why are you crying love?" He asks softly, wiping away the tears that start to fall onto his chest, "I need you." You bury your face into his chest. His arms hold you tighter to him, "Y/n, my love, my darling I'm here now. I'm here. I'm not leaving again, honey. I swear on my summoning." You pull back and stop crying at his promise, "Aether don't say that!" You scold, he looks back at you with wide eyes, "I swear on my summoning, Y/n. I'll be here for you." You smile and start to cry again, "Y/n, for the love of Satan stop crying! I'm going to cry." Aether says as his hands cup your face, pulling you in for a kiss. You let him. You missed his lips, his scent, his being. When he pulls back, you're already asleep. The comfort of his touch and words added with the bed was too much. He smiles softly, pulling the covers over both of you, "Goodnight, Y/n. I'll be here." He whispers, and lets himself sleep, knowing that taking care of Vrai will be the biggest challenge with the biggest reward.
