Working as a server for the summer might have been a decision you have become to regret. The busiest restaurant in town right by the river with gorgeous views, expensive food, and the shortest staffing you've ever seen seemed to be an opportunity ripe for the picking, but with no experience in the restaurant industry, it is stressful. Learning how to carry a tray, take orders, memorize table numbers, specials, and a ten page menu was stressful. On top of that, "training" shifts are nothing less than throwing you with a person and trying to keep up with them. Carrying heavy trays of food for eleven hour shifts exhausted your feet, arms, and immune system. A sinus infection polished off the pain and sealed your sleep deprivation.
Coming home tonight felt worse, you can feel the pressure in your head rise and soar to new, painful heights. You nearly swerved into oncoming traffic close to the ministry, but luckily snapped out of your trance to move back into the correct lane. Parking your car in front of the ministry felt like a relief, but your body felt so tired you sat there for a few minutes, slowly drifting off into a peaceful, much needed, sleep.
Aether stayed up scrolling through Tik Tok waiting for you to come home from your shift. Normally he would go to bed early, but when you worked he would stay up and wait for you to come home. Tonight, however, something felt different. The clock on the nightstand read 10:47 and Aether couldn't take it anymore. He got out of bed, slipped on shoes, and started to search the ministry. He starts to panic while passing by other siblings and ghouls, none of them being you. He quickly made his way out to the small, old parking lot in front of the ministry knowing that you park your car there.
He sighs in relief, approaching your car, but quickly moves to the driver's side door, noticing that the car was still on. He opened the door quietly, trying not to wake you. He reached over to the keys and turned off the ignition. Aether smiles softly, noticing how peaceful and calm you look. He knew how hard you were working and how difficult serving was on top of the possible sinus infection you had on top of it. He unbuckles your seatbelt, grabs your phone, pockets it, grabs your keys, and gently picks you up out of the car. You stir and start to push away as your feet hit the ground, "It's okay, baby, it's just me." He coos. You mumble something incoherent and throw your arms around his neck, lazily leaning into his chest, "Oh, come on, sweetheart, I got you." He says, carefully lifting you in his arms, his body radiates both comforting and loving energy, gently lulling you back to sleep.
Aether quickly walks both of you back into the ministry, sleep beginning to fog his brain too. The halls were empty, only a few candles and the dim light of the moon illuminating his path. He would glance down every few seconds to admire your beauty in the moonlight. The way the light seemed to emphasize every facial feature made Aether's heart flutter.
He slowly, gently opened the door to your shared room and placed you down on the bed. You didn't remove your hands from his neck and whimper in protest as he pulls away, "I'll be right back, let me take care of you tonight." He whispers, placing a gently kiss on your forehead and removing your hands from around his neck. Aether moves quickly, removing his shirt and changing into gray sweatpants and grabbing one of his band t-shirts for you. He quickly, gingerly removes your shoes and socks, gasping at the blisters and peeling skin on the bottom of them, "Satan, Y/n. You need to be off your feet for a day." He mumbles under his breath, moving up to remove the dress pants your uniform required. He cursed noticing small bruises, you were always clumsy, but that scared him more than angered him. He was always worried about your safety when he wasn't with you. How could he ensure that you were okay mentally, emotionally, and physically if he wasn't around to sense it. Shaking his head to shoo the intrusive thoughts away, he carefully slipped off your uniform shirt and replaced it with his. He threw the dirty laundry into the hamper and crawled into bed beside you, "I love you, Y/n." He whispers, kissing your cheek. You mumble something and start cuddling into his chest, your arms wrapped around his waist, pulling him even closer. He laughs softly, letting you sleep on his left arm while his right gently rubs up and down your side, "I got you. Tomorrow I'm giving you the best self care day ever." He swears, kissing the top of your head, you nuzzle into him more letting sleep take over.
