Elliot
The alarm clock is so loud in the morning it makes my head pound. I groan at the loud blaring sound and dig my head deeper into the pillow.
Last night was pure torture. Me, Mackenzie, Natalie and Thomas stayed up late into the night, bickering about the plan Kenzie made. We couldn't agree on anything that could work. Me and Thomas were completely against the plan – this is probably going to be the only time we'll be on the same page about something – while the girls were completely for the plan.
We needed to stop arguing a few times since we weren't the only ones in the house. I could see the way Samantha eyed us suspiciously when she came to the kitchen for a glass of water.
The blaring of the alarm clock stops on its own and my eyebrows furrow in confusion. Until I feel something move in my arms, I didn't even realize I'm not alone in bed. I crack my eyes open, seeing a pair of blue ones staring back at me. I open my eyes fully to look at my mate.
She looks just as tired as she did yesterday, but the determined look in her eyes sets a spark of life in her. I feel how she rests her hand over my tattoo, her thumb brushing over my skin. It makes goosebumps crawl over my skin and I shudder.
"We have to get up." Mackenzie's voice is soft when she tells me that. I lift my arm up and wrap it around her figure, pulling her closer to me. "Five more minutes." I mumble, which makes my mate chuckle. I love the sound of her voice. I love it when she laughs, it makes butterflies erupt in my stomach.
"No. We need to get ready and leave." Kenzie untangles from my arm and gets out of my bed. She walks to the door and pauses before she opens it up. I raise an eyebrow at her strange behavior.
"I only have eight more days to live." She whispers, facing the door. My stomach squeezes when she tells me that. I watch her back tense up with her words. I feel myself tense up. Then Mackenzie turns to look at me over her shoulder, her crystal blue eyes catching my hazel ones.
"I know." I force the words out of myself. My throat feels like it's being blocked by something. I can't speak. I can't breathe. It's hard to swallow.
Mackenzie nods a little, before she opens the door of my room and heads out. I hear how she softly closes the door behind her. I hear her footsteps walk to Thomas's room, her knuckles softly knocking against the door. I hear the door open and Mackenzie's soft voice saying that we leave in twenty.
I lay in the bed, feeling numb. Eight days. It's not enough. It's not fair. Not to her. Not to me. Not to anybody that cares for her.
I wish I could force the Moon goddess to change her decision. I wish she wouldn't be the one that got picked. I want her to live. I want her to live with me until we grow old.
She can survive, the voice inside my head is as loud as a whisper. I can barely hear it. The survival rate is so small it is almost impossible to have hope she'll live through her first transformation.
Even if she does, she is going to be my biggest enemy afterwards. Her Seishin is going to be so strong. I don't know how much it's going to hurt me to be around her.
I force myself out of the bed and head to my wardrobe. I throw on a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt. I find my phone on the nightstand. When I look at the notifications on it, I notice there is a text from Max. I unlock my phone and open the message to read through it.
Max: See you in thirty.
I sigh through my nose and head out of my room. I step out of the room just in time to see Natalie exiting Thomas's room. She slept over since we were up until three in the morning, talking through Mackenzie's plan.
