Jason
I had to go for a walk. To clear my mind. The tension in the pack house was too much for me so I bolted the second my mother freaked out. I went out into the rain, knowing that it is going to mask my scent and that nobody is going to be able to follow me.
Dumb idea, I know. I went out into the woods, where the hunters could get me. I should have stayed in the pack house and lock myself in another bathroom, just like yesterday, but I didn't want to hide away in a bathroom again. I needed to move and I needed to think.
Everything is happening too fast. I find my mate. Mackenzie and Elliot disappear overnight. The Polaris pack wants to run and now everyone knows that Max is my mate. I really needed the space and the time to think.
I come trudging through the heavy rain, barely seeing a few meters before me. The rain was so heavy I couldn't see the pack house, even though I was standing beside the Johnson's house. I glance over to the porch of the house, wondering if Alec went back home or if they are all in the pack house. Still in wolf form I head up the porch and shake the rain out of my fur as much as possible.
Mackenzie and Elliot. They don't leave my mind. They practically haunt me. I can't believe the hunters got to them. I can't believe they'd be so stupid to go out at night.
The door behind me opens. I turn, seeing how Mike steps out on the porch. My wolf form is big enough so I look him directly into his eyes.
"I thought you were in the pack house with the others." He tells me, crossing his arms over his chest. I let my ears drop down slightly, not in a threatening way, but in a way that tells him I'm in a bad mood. I link my mind with his so we could talk.
"I needed to clear my mind." I tell him, while sitting down on the porch. Mike glances out in the rain, his dark brown eyes watching the downpour. "You're worried about Mackenzie and Elliot, aren't you?" I nod at his question. Mike sighs heavily and reaches his hand out. Normally I wouldn't let anybody touch me, but right now I welcome the comfort. His hand is warm as he digs his fingers through my fur.
"Elliot wouldn't let anyone hurt Mackenzie. He'd kill for her." Mike says. I listen to him, contemplating his words. He calms down some of my fears about Elliot. I was so worried he did this on purpose. The way my dad exploded when he found out Elliot knew put an awful image of him in my head, but Mike is right. Elliot wouldn't let anything happen to Mack.
"Do you think they're dead?" I glance over to Mike, noticing the way he clenches his jaw at my question. Mike's dark brown eyes turn to me and I notice the stubble that is growing on his face. He really needs to shave. "Honestly... I don't know. I hope not." My fur stands at his words and I let out a huff at his words. Mike gives me a sad look and he knows I'm judging him for his words. His hand disappears from my fur and he clears his throat. I glance over to him again.
"I think someone wants to talk to you." He says and points out into the rain. I follow his finger and my fur seems to spike up even more when I see the figure walking through the heavy rain. "I'll get you some clothes so you can talk normally to him." Mike tells me and disappears inside.
Max steps under the roof of the porch. The water is pouring from him. His dark brown locks stick to his forehead and he wipes at his face so he sees me better. His clothes are drenched and sticking to his skin.
"Your mother's worried for you." He tells me. His deep voice makes me want to walk over to him, shift back into my human form and just kiss him. I stay silent and watch him. Max notices I don't want to form a mind link with him, so he just nods.
Mike returns with a towel and some clothes.
"Here. You can come change inside." He tells me. I have never been embarrassed with my nudity, but knowing that Max's bright grey eyes are watching me, I'm reluctant to just shift back. What the hell? I'm going to concern myself with some guy I don't even know? Fuck that! That isn't me.
