The sun was slowly setting, casting a red light over the town of Beacon Hills. I'm standing on the Johnson's porch, watching as the mingling werewolves from all four packs prepare for the upcoming attack.

The air is filled with excitement and anger. I can feel it flooding my nostrils and making my own blood rush through my veins. I'm angry. Angrier than I usually am. I want all of this to end tonight and maybe it's going to. Or maybe we'll die out there and the hunters are going to dance on top of our corpses.

The corners of my lips turn down at the thought of losing. It isn't an option anymore. If we lose, the Polaris and Midnight packs don't have a future. They will die protecting their loved ones and then the hunters will come right after the rest of us, finishing the job they started in Beacon Hills.

"You're gritting your teeth so much they're going to break." I hear Alec say behind me, making me glance over my shoulder at the male. I didn't realize I was gritting my teeth until he pointed it out. My jaw hurts.

I move my lower jaw slightly, trying to release some of the tension that gathered in my muscles. He gives me a ghost of a smile and walks up to the fence, where I'm standing. His body leans forward against the fence, his weight being held up by his arms on top of the fence.

"It's strange seeing so many werewolves in the territory." He mutters, watching the groups that are starting to gather. They are all waiting for the sun to disappear from the sky, that's when we leave. "If we succeed, we'll all be out of your hair." I say with a bitter ring to my voice. Alec notices the frown on my face and the corner of his lips lifts up slightly.

"Are you sure about that? Max is going to be here, you know." He teases, which makes me glance over to his figure, the frown turning into a scowl. Alec seems to enjoy the annoyance that displays on my face, because the corner of his lip twitches.

"I don't know what I'm going to do after the battle." I state, looking back to the few Midnight members that gather by the pack house, waiting for their new Alpha to come out. Alec's teasing smile disappears from his face and he glances at the pack house as well. "Neither do I."

I raise an eyebrow at his statement, but the way his face pulls into a blank expression stops me from asking about it. I watch as he slumps further down against the fence, his head almost lying down on his arms.

"You haven't talked to Maddison yet?" I ask in a quiet voice, only guessing that is what might be the thing that is troubling him. Alec sighs through his nose and pushes off the fence, casting one last glance to the pack house. "Not since we found out we're mates. Not really. She's been... closed up from me." Alec's pale face heats up and a flash of red adorns his face. I turn away from the street to face him as we talk.

"Well, that sucks." The blunt remark makes Alec snort. He nods slightly as he glances over to me. "Yeah... that sucks."

We stay silent for some time until the door of the pack house opens. I glance over my shoulder to see Elliot and Mackenzie exit, along with the other Alphas and Lunas. The sun has almost completely set.

I watch as Elliot kisses Mackenzie on top of her head before he walks off to where most of the Midnight pack members are hanging. Where Max is.

"Is he going to stay in the pack?" My eyes unglue from my mate as I look back to Alec. He is referring to Max, I know he is, but we haven't had that conversation either. I don't know if he's going to stay in Elliot's pack or if he's thinking about joining the Blood moon pack. But the better question is if father is going to pull out his claws from me and let me run away to join another pack if Max wants to stay. I don't think it's going to be that easy to just walk away from the Blood moon pack.
