Chapter 23
It had been about two weeks since Serena told Loki that she wanted to return to the Elite Guards. One day, Sif came to visit with Serena. Sif asked Serena, "How are you feeling? Is your shoulder any better?" Serena answered, "I do feel better and so does my shoulder. I can't wait until I get back into the Elite Guard. I miss it so much." Sif's eyes grew big and replied, "The word around the palace is that Loki's NOT going to let you back in the Elite Guards." Serena gets upset, "What do you mean HE'S NOT going to let me back in the Elite Guard!?" Sif responded, "I don't want to get anything started between you and Loki." Serena replies, "We've already had this discussion once already, but I thought that it had been dropped but apparently not." Sif tried to calm Serena down, "Loki's just worried about you getting hurt again and almost dying....again." Serena replied, "The reason I got injured was because I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings. That doesn't mean it's going to happen again. Besides, this was just my first battle." Sif interrupted Serena, "And it was almost your last one too." Serena asked Sif, "You don't think I can handle myself in battle?" Sif said, "I didn't say that, Serena. Loki is just really concerned about you. He doesn't want to lose you."
Sif continues, "Did you know when he saw you on that stretcher with a big gash in your shoulder, that he fell apart. Especially, when the healers said that they didn't know if you would pull through." Serena looked down at the floor. So, Sif continues, "Loki would not leave your side, Serena. We all tried to get him to rest but he refused and wouldn't talk to anyone, NOT even his mother. Thor finally got him to talk and almost had him convinced to leave your side and HE would watch over you when you started to come around. Then Loki stayed right there by your side. He still didn't even leave you AFTER you came to. Loki stayed by your side day and night for the three days that you were unconscious. That's how much he cares for you. Seeing you at death's door tore Loki apart inside. I have NEVER seen him act that way with anyone else. That should tell you something." Serena was still quiet.
