Roman POV

While I was sitting on the chest press doing my routines, Dean came over to me and stared at me with a dirty smirk. I tried to ignore him at first, but that rarely worked with him.

"What do you want?" I grunted instead.

"For someone who just had sex, you're pretty moody. I guess she didn't bring it or something." he chuckled.

That was enough. I jumped up and got up in his face.

"Woah, chill out, big man. I was just kidding." he said as he raised his hands in surrender.

"You and your stupid jokes! Do you have any idea how bad she felt about your dumb remark this morning? I really wish you'd use that brain of yours more often," I growled as I sat back down.

I tried to calm myself down. But I felt guilty about what Cassia had heard. It was understandable that it gave her a bad impression of the situation. Even though it was completely the opposite of what I was thinking about it. She actually had me wrapped around her little finger from the first moment.

"I'm sorry, okay? But it's not my fault if you pick up such a sensitive lady," he replied with a laugh.

I was about to smack him when my phone started ringing. I quickly reached for it, hoping it was Cassia. But it wasn't an unknown number like I had expected. Instead it was Gail again. With a roll of my eyes, I declined the call. I didn't feel like listening to her whine again. Once a day was more than enough. Besides, I still had to see her tonight.

Disappointed, I put the phone back in my pocket before continuing my workout.

Cassia POV

When I got home, the first thing I did was to take a long shower. As I did so, I recalled the previous night. My fingers slid over the skin on my neck where the first hickeys had already formed. With my eyes closed, I stood under the warm water and could almost imagine that it was Roman's fingers running over my body instead of the pleasant water.

After I had finished drying off and getting dressed, I was about to make myself something to eat before I planned to call Roman.

Part of me wanted to call him immediately. Another part told me to wait a little so as not to seem even more needy. And yet another part wondered if it was a good idea altogether or if it was just the aftermath of a meaningless one night stand.

However, all that quickly moved to the back of my mind when the doorbell rang. I wasn't expecting anyone so early on a Saturday morning. I walked over to see who it was and realized it was my mother.

"Good morning, sweetheart." she said cheerfully as she hugged me.

"Morning, mom. What are you doing here? Was I expecting you?" I asked as I walked her into the living room.

"No, but I need your help. Dad's out golfing all day today with his buddies and I want to paint the living room. He's not thrilled with the color. That's why I thought I'd simply present him with the finished result. Then he can't raise any more objections. Unless he changes the color himself, but we both know he's too lazy for that," she explained to me as she walked past the living room into my bedroom.

She opened the closet and pulled out a few of my old clothes that already had paint stains on them. Then she looked at me expectantly.

"Mom, you know...I don't really have time," I replied.

"Oh? And what exactly do you have to do, Cassia? I so rarely ask you for help. Please. I'm sure it won't take long." she then said, looking at me with wide eyes.

"Well I..." I began, but didn't know an answer that could save me from this situation that quickly.

"See? You're not up to anything. Come on. I already have a coffee and a muffin for you in the car. Go get changed. We've got a lot to do." she replied and then gave me a pat on the butt before leaving the room.

Groaning, I threw my head back. I guess I had no choice. And the last thing I wanted was to talk to Roman on the phone while my mother was standing next to me. Or even just being in the same building. The woman had ears like a hawk and would bombard me with a thousand questions afterwards.

And so the day passed by my mother's side. I could hardly wait to finally get home and go to sleep. Because I hadn't gotten much sleep the night before, exhaustion was slowly but surely setting in.

I made myself comfortable in bed and searched my phone for the contact I wanted to call. Roman had saved his name with a little winking emoji next to it. Such a sassy boy. I had to giggle when I saw that. With a tap on the number, I dialed. Impatiently, I listened to the repetitive ringing. It seemed to take forever for him to finally answer. But it wasn't Roman's voice answering. No, it was a woman's voice.

"Hello?" said the stranger.

"Um, hello..... Is Roman there?" I asked, confused because I didn't know what else to say.

"I'm sorry, but there's no Roman here. You have the wrong number. Don't call it again. Bye." the woman said before hanging up.

Speechless, I stared at my phone. Shock began to spread through me as I realized what had just happened. He had actually given me a wrong number! So much for please don't ignore me. I could not believe it. But it was true. And I couldn't help but feel embarrassed once again today and on top of that I was deeply hurt because I really thought he was a good guy. I was so stupid.
