For a month now General Armitage Hux had been serving under the command of Allegiant General Pryde and ever since his transfer, General Armitage Hux no longer felt like General Armitage Hux. He felt like an officer, just a Major and sometimes he felt as if his worth had been reduced to the same level as a janitor, not even a stormtrooper.

He had become useless.

Obsolete, too. He was in meetings all day but none of what he was doing was important. At least, that's what it felt like. He didn't like the Steadfast. It was the same model as his Finalizer, but it wasn't the same. His quarters were different, of course, because they were now inhabited by Pryde and instead of having a different nice and spacious apartment, he'd received one at the end of a hallway next to some Majors and every morning that he left he spotted MD-2442 of all people leaving Kylo Ren's personal med bay.

She greeted him every day, didn't say much more than that and she was likely not looking down on him for having been moved so far down the ladder, but to Hux none of that mattered. To him she saw herself as above him, with more importance and more power. She didn't behave like any of it, which only made Hux hate her more.

Pryde was also getting on his nerves. Allegiant General, Hux had to call him every day, even though Pryde should be calling him Supreme leader instead. Now the old man was micromanaging him, gave him boring tasks to do, made him recheck fuel supplies and rework contracts. He had a good relationship with MD-2442, the two chatted occasionally when she was on the bridge for one or the other odd reason and Hux could not shake the feeling that the two of them were working together.

And then, after a long and annoying day, he encountered MD-2442 on her stroll back to the med-bay again or, worse, accompanied by one of the Knights or on the search for the Supreme leader. There was not a single day that he did not see her around!

Rationally he knew that she slept in a room the size of a better supply closet and worked long hours at the ER. He also knew that just because she was close to the Supreme leader that she played no role more important than his, yet...he still despised her and the irrationality of his feelings towards her only made it worse.

He should have liked her for she was a good employee. She was dedicated and loyal. She would have sacrificed everyone in that shuttle on Batuu a few weeks back to protect the Supreme leader and from the reports of the officers that had survived it, she'd shown no signs of giving in when she'd been beaten either. MD-2442 would walk over corpses to protect the First Order's leader.

If only Hux was that leader.

But no. Kylo fucking Ren had to demote him to a pawn in Pryde's game and what was even worse that the stupid fucking doctor had possibly also saved his life on that day by magically calming the hormonal man-child down. She'd pitied him on that day. She had pitied him. As if she had any right to!

Every time he saw her, she was a reminder that the only reason he even had a chance to get his own star destroyer again was because of her. And every time he got reminded of that, he got reminded that – Hux interrupted his own thoughts, squeezing the bridge of his nose until they were gone.

When she'd been thrown on him when the Finalizer had been hit, he'd been reminded of when the two of them had been caught on that rooftop. She'd carelessly thrown herself on him to protect him. He could have been the one with such a loyal employee, but no. It just had to be Kylo Ren. It was always him and, in the end, while he hated MD-2442 for many reasons, he still hated Kylo more.

But Hux also knew what she meant to him and Hux had enough. This whole thing would be over and that pesky woman would finally be gone.
