What had once been your brother had now turned into black goo, seeping into the ground and becoming one with the mud and rain that had killed him. Blaster shots were hitting the ground next to you, splinters flying your way but your armour saved you or maybe it really was just pure luck.

You didn't think about where you were running. Just forward, forward and away from this place. Moving your legs got harder and harder the further you ran, the mud sticking to you and catching your legs making you stumble more than run. Your lungs were burning as if you were breathing in the acidic rain directly.

You jumped over a small fence and fell into a trench. Someone held a blaster up your head but immediately removed it again, helping you on your feet instead.

"24, where is the rest?"

You couldn't speak, the words were caught in your throat and all that escaped was a loud sob.

The others grew quiet for a moment until 40 spoke up again. "We will mourn later. We have twenty minutes left to get there."

You nodded and pressed LZ-2 against your chest, petting the little man's head. The little creature held onto you, nestling its snout in the crevice between your helmet and the rest of your armour. Only one had made it, but at least it was one. You'd protect the little creature with your life if you had to.

The other squads had already arrived at your destination. They'd each lost a member or two but none were as badly decimated as yours. They didn't ask questions but each gave you a respectful nod. You didn't ask if you were supposed to treat any of them, if they would have been hurt, they were already dead on the battlefield.

The villagers were confused, whispering to each other and retreating into their homes while some remained standing outside, hands on their hips or spitting into your direction. They didn't know what you wanted and oh, well, what a surprise that would be, wouldn't it?

As you'd been able to see from far away, the village was protected by a gigantic invisible dome that kept the rain and toxic gases out. It was the same technique that the First Order and some of the Resistance huts had had, only that this one was much larger. The squads had now encircled the village and you all entered at once.

"Round them up outside!" the corrosion corps sergeant shouted and part of your squad entered into the nearest home.

45 kicked the door in and 47, 48 and you went inside, searching through the rooms and forcing everyone outside.

In the next room, there was a group of people. They had still been sleeping and were only getting up slowly. You forced one of them out and the woman dropped on her knees. A man was immediately by her side but stopped from helping her up by you pointing your blaster at him.

"Out."

"Hey, I am sorry. I just wanted to help. We don't need to esca—"

"Out."

"Let me help her. I—"

You hit him in his back with the stock of your rifle and the man finally shut up and just got out of the room. The rest followed, quick and quiet. When they'd left, 40 took the blaster from your hands.

"Hey." He put his hand on your shoulders and put his helmet against yours, the same way that 43 had done before and when he did that, you almost broke down crying. "24, we can mourn later."

You didn't reply and he pulled back, switching to a commanding tone.

"24. Stand straight."

His change of voice and the force with which he'd taken your weapon confused you, but you listened. Back straight, eyes forward, as you'd been taught.
