Chapter 36

I pull the blanket up till under my neck. A few minutes have passed and all that can be heard are our synchronized breathing. I'm about to roll over onto my side when he speaks. "I'm going to court again tomorrow."

"Do you want me to come with?"

"Nah, it's alright. It's not a big thing. Kofi filed up some papers that we gotta sign."

"Oh okay."

The next morning, we both wake up at the same time and he hops into the shower while I decide to make breakfast. I make the only thing I can which is omelets before putting the kettle on for coffee. When I'm finished, Koda comes downstairs and grabs his keys off the rack next to the fridge.

"I made breakfast." I say with a smile. "Thanks but I'm not gonna eat. See you later." He's out the front door within seconds and I'm left dumbfounded. I swallow my annoyance and put his omelete in the microwave before I make my coffee and sit at the table to eat.

I have absolutely no idea what I should do. I don't want to go into work right now but there's nothing for me to do here. I message Bronwyn to see what she's doing and it's not long before she sends a selfie of her and Tobias. They're at an ultrasound appointment to check on the baby and she tells me she'll send a pic of the scan when she's done so I can see.

I message Lucky and it's not long before she's on her way. I just finish breakfast when the bell rings and I open the door. She hugs me and I let her in. Surely Koda won't mind, she is his friend.

"Hey girl. How you been?" She asks me. "Alright and you?"

"I'm good." She makes her way to the couch and I take my plate and cup to the kitchen. "Hey, I can clean up the kitchen while you go shower." I hear her say. "Really?" I call. "Yeah, I don't mind. My boyfriend left early so I don't have anywhere I need to be." I thank her and promise to be quick before I go upstairs to shower and change.

We're both finished and we sit on the couch together. The TV is on a random show and she lowers the volume before turning to me. "So? Spill the beans."

"Huh?"

"You know, about what happened. I wanna know everything." I can feel my cheeks heat up. How did she hear about that? Surely Koda couldn't have told her. And it's not like we went all the way, we just did... some stuff. "Leo and Holt told me Linds showed up. That's a plot twist I didn't expect. And when you and Ji were out on a date. I need the details of that too but this is more important. What happened?"

My racing heart calms down. "Oh that. Well, she left with Lumi so Koda has been in court yesterday and today again." Her brows furrow in confusion. "What do you mean left with Lumi?"

"Well when we came in, she was holding Lumi and left with her. Ji couldn't do anything, she threatened to call the police." She rolls her eyes. "Ew she's such a bitch. I can't believe how he must've felt." I nod. "He was really pissed. He ended up driving somewhere to beat up some guys."

"Yeah. That's his only way of letting his anger out." I tilt my head. "But won't he go to jail for beating up so many people?" She shakes her head. "He's kinda untouchable with Kofi at his side."

"Kofi? I never knew he was such a big shot." She nods, staying quiet and a question runs through my mind. Does she know something I don't?

"Is there something I'm missing?" She looks away from the TV. "Hm?"

"I feel like Koda is hiding something from me." She chuckles. "You really think so when he gave you the go ahead to call him by his first name?" I sigh. "It's just everything feels so strange. Kofi is able to get him out of stuff, Koda barely tells me things about himself and now I find out that Corbin is in a gang. Or was, I don't know."
